Open source MPEG / AVI player?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Open source MPEG / AVI player?

Post by Freeze »

I've been looking for an open source video player on some websites, but didn't find anything which could help me. Was there ever one released and which one of the "closed source" players is the best?

If you're looking for an MPEG-1 player, GYPPlay has to be the best. The fact that it's coded with the WindowsCE lib makes it impossible to swap CDs (unless you have some weird mod chip installed, or so I hear). It's an older one too.

...but the Windows CE libraries makes it illegal and unfortunately I haven't found the source code yet.

No, I don't think the source code was released for GYPPlay. I know bero has a video player but I'm not sure how good it is (I think I remember hearing it wasn't in sync very well). The source is avalible too although I think I remember hearing that it's hard to compile.

VLC Media Player has its source code available for download.

Media Player Classic should have its source available at SourceForge, but I can't find it.
