Reinserting the GD drive ribbon

Post by Mynabull »

I opened up my broken DC and I just noticed that the white ribbon that connects to the GD drive has come off, and I seem to have a hard time putting it back in. Anyone have any tips?

uh.... there is no ribbon going to the gdrom. the connection to the gdrom is under the thing itself. the only white ribbon in the entire dreamcast is the controller board to motherboard connection. should just slide back into place with your fingers.

Haha, yeah that sucks putting that thing back in. Keep trying, you'll get it. It tooks me about 30 minutes to get it back in there.

DC is one of the hardest consoles to take apart, at least the gd drive part. Second is the bulkier ps2.

o (duh) just thinking about it and you're talking about the long white ribbon that connects the laser assembly to the gdrom board. sorry about the confusion on my part.

yea but the ps2 is stupidly designed and is hard to get back together with all of those gay ass ribbons on that one side going to the dvd drive.

n e ways about that i'd suggest taking off the clear peice of plastic so you can get a clear shot at it. get yourself some tweezers and grip the ribbon and just push it in over and over, doing a little bit at a time.
