"please insert game disc"

Post by mysterybat35 »

Hi,

My dreamcast used to work ...well at least the first time I tried. Now I get this "please insert game disc" message and my games won't boot.

Just so you know am trying to play Real games not bootlegged ones, so they should work.

I dunno what the prob is ... but I guess I came to the right place.
Thx guys

Laser is most probably on its last legs. There is a way to fix it, well, make it read games again for a while. Search for the "pot tweak", it should be on the first page of the FAQ too

I'd try observing the laser with the lid off first (lid switch depressed so it will think it is closed, of course). It might just need to be cleaned or pushed along the track or something. Tweaking the potentiometer would come later, if all else fails.

Pick your dc up, about 4 feet above a hard surface ... and drop it.

I'm not joking, i have fixed 2 dreamcasts this way, when the laser was off track or whatever ... wasn't moving correctly.... i'm sorry, i just love it when tech and violence work together.

*winces* I'd rather push the laser assembly forcibly along its track and screw with every connection in there than drop it on the floor.

That depends... if they're loose, you have to screw with them. :P
