Gargoyle's Quest III

Talk about Quake, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D, or other DC first person shooting game ports and mods for those games in here.

Gargoyle's Quest III

Post by leileilol »

Right now it's in pre-alpha stages. Thanks to Ren's 2DCam it basically is the base of the mod starting WAY back in 2003. I understood it, and went to make the platformer game of my dreams :D

however I didn't really go anywhere because i had no textures, no new palette, etc. Can't go from scratch. Plus i only had a Pentium 100MHz so i really couldn't use advanced software like i used to then.

Fastforward to now, I get off my duff and finally get back to it, and just made a nice low poly Firebrand for it! (534 triangles, 128x128x8 texture)

It's main target is Dosquake, but it'll go for the Dreamcast as well, even though I don't have one with me right now (lol) but I plan to fit as much as I could in the ram with stereo music included. I have a new palette too, if DC supports that. If it doesn't well get it supported then, new palletes make a big difference :D
I plan to have no lightmaps for levels and no ugly overbrighting either. I'll use higher poly models for cutscenes too. The cutscenes themselves WILL be models so I get much more dynamic control (i'm a modeler mostly).

Anyways, I got him standing, and jumping! He also clings to walls and (almost) flies. (btw, he's not supposed to be THAT close to the screen, i just zoomed the fov)

Oh and if you're wondering what this game is about - it takes place during the events between Gargoyle's Quest II and Demon's Crest (both 1337 games for the NES and SNES) and yes I did get the green light from Capcom when I asked ages ago so no worries about using a long abandoned franchise here. I'm a big huge fan of this guy anyways :P Also it'll have crest transformations, so prepare to hit the water, get in the air, and dive through the ground.

No alpha release is available (i wish) though the phase i'm going through is new map textures and the basic weapons (Fire, Buster, Wind (create platforms to jump on), Claw (latch onto sharp surfaces) and Dark Fire)

P.S. since the standards i'm shooting for is actually lower than quake's itself it might run on a 486 dx2 66MHz w/ 8mb of ram in pure dos.

Hint of advice, to avoid a lot of head aches make entities in your game non-solid and when they need to be hit or interacted with, set them solid for that frame then set them back to non-solid in the same frame (a cheap hack, but a nice one).. This is how TAoV allows entities to be attacked and able to be walked through.

Otherwise you're gonna have to deal with your player landing on top of other monsters heads and sliding around on them; unless you want this.

Kick arse! I really liked the GQ games for Gameboy and NES. Good luck.

I can do tests for you.
No CD burner, and you're in 2005... ouch!

Bloody gargoyles, see how they'd like a lightning bolt up their a*&^.
Flying's blinkin' overrated too.
Can they fire flares, or bombs or my new attack (that agay won't let me talk about, I've probably messed it up already with the bomb thing) or fart or ... that's it really, but don't blame me - I'd have got it all finished by now. that's an idea actually I'll do an agay mod: Agay's Journey - control agay through 20 levels of him sitting on his butt doing sod all.

Anyway I suppose it's nice to see another mod....

Gargoyle/Demon's Crest is a dead franchise? Damn, those were some of Capcom's best games.

Good luck with this project :).
