PC <-> Xbox Transfer Speeds

Post by Luriden »

I have my PC and Xbox on the same router. It's a Linksys router.

When I transfer big files to my Xbox from my PC, I usually get pretty good speeds. I see them from 1-5mb/s. Some would say that's good or bad, but it's good enough for me.

However, transferring back from Xbox to PC is another story. I'm lucky to get over 30kb/s. I've tried FlashFXP, SmartFTP, and Qwix, but they're all slow. I even fiddled with the upload packet settings, and though the lowest packet count gets me better speeds, it's still not over 40kb/s from Xbox to PC.

I'm wondering if maybe I find a crossover cable somewhere I could transfer faster, but it would be a waste of money to buy one and find out I still have the same problem...

It'd be a waste of money, if you can upload that fast, you should be able to download that fast. Could be the xbox is not capable of transfering faster.

Couldn't say because I've done moded my xbox however.

I have exactly the same problem. I gave up trying to figure it out a while ago.

It's the Xbox, not the networking hardware. There's probably not a lot you can do about it.

I get about 3000kb all the time. In fact, that's what it's at now.

Dunno, I've never had this problem, I have my PC and Xbox hooked via router, and get speeds of 10mb/s both ways fine :?

Tried using a crossover cable, and your xbox hooked directly to your pc?

I have never had a problem with slow transfer speeds before.
I have used CoreFTP lite and just plain old internet explorer.

What FTP server are you all using on the xbox?
I use XBMC and seem to get quicker transfers from the xbox (5,700KB/s) than to it (4,500KB/s) :?

This might be a stupid question, but what part of the hardware is it, and can it be replaced? Is it a config file somewhere deep in the C: that controls the speeds? I'm going to be getting a hard drive upgrade soon, just want to know maybe if this will fix it.

I'm guessing that whatever software you've got running on the Xbox isn't set up properly, or is just slow. I've never seen or heard of networking hardware that's faster in one direction than it is in another, but some software is.

whatever dash/ftp server your using, can you email me the .ini file (or if your usin xbmc the .xlm? i think) to mkemodz@gmail.com , maybe i can see a flaw in it.

or better yet, post the contents here.

another thing you might need to do is change your pc's nic media type... (go to the properties of the card, and you should see a media type or something that gives you 5-6 options, auto sense 10/100 half duplex, auto sense 10/100 full duplex, 100 full, 100 half, 10 full, 10 half)

try all of the options you have, see if any makes a difference. i had this prob too and i think that's what was the prob.

I took MKE's advice and I changed it to 10 half duplex. It seems a lot faster now, though not full speed. I get around 300-600kb/s now. Now I wonder if there's anything I can tweak to ramp it up any more.

I know it's not the dash, because I tried it on UnleashX, EvoX, Avalaunch, and XBMC and got the same results.

is 10 half the only one that made a difference?

with 10 half, your only gonna get around 300-600kb/s, but if it's the only one that makes a diff then you could try another ehternet card/ 'nother computer and see if that makes a difference...

Yeah, 10 half is the only one that did anything for me. I'll try my dad's laptop a little later on today.
