Best.Book.Ever.

I sadly only own the second rarest pressing of it, heh. I purchase every variant of it I can, I love it so much.

I dunno.
Looks like they took a lot of liberties with the book (or they are using the original radio transcripts which I haven't read).
I'm iffy. But I'll probably watch it opening day anyway. The production values look to be there. I thought Mos Def a poor choice for Ford when I read it on IMDB, and I still don't think it's a good move.

I thought Mos Def was a strange choice as well when I first read it, but it doesn't seem so bad from watching the trailer, personally. I still think of Ford as the guy from the TV series.

But Mos Def seems to work.

It's natural, of course, that they're going to take liberties with it. (for the record, they're using /all/ the source material as reference -- the book, the radio plays, /and/ D.A.'s notes. Oh, and the screenplay is based on the screenplay that D.A. himself wrote. (But not the TV series, apparently)) I read the guy who's working on the script's self-interview (here, for anyone who's interested) and he seems to have a good head on his shoulders, and I trust him.

Looks like they took a lot of liberties with the book
I think that's the point. No two versions of H2H2 are consistent with one another, and are often entirely contradictory. The book was very different to the radio series (although it used quite a lot of the same ideas), the TV series was different to both the book and the radio series, the adventure game was different yet again...

The only thing that does seem a little off is Mos Def as Ford Prefect. That just doesn't seem quite right to me.

I skimmed through the writer's "self-interview" and after reading it, most of my fears about the script are set aside. He's obviously been reading a lot of Douglas Adams, as it is coming through in his interview.
And I'm quite aware of "HH liberty". The books themselves couldn't keep a lot facts straight. However, anything tossed out the window was tossed out for the sake of the current central story. I just don't want them to go too deep as it were.
But like he said, it doesn't sound like he did much past what Adams himself wrote.
Like I said, I'm going to be there opening day, and I'll try to remember my towel.

I'm a big fan of Mos Def's work, so there's nothing I can really be skeptical of.

I never read the literature, but I think the film looks potentially cool.

It looks like just the first book. At least from what I can tell, they are using the Magrathea story. I haven't noticed anything from any other book though.
If this movie turns out well, then they should do the whole trilogy.

Well, the TV series is still on, maybe they're waiting for it to die FULLY?

BTW, the early reviews for the HHGTTG are glowing.
