How hard would it be to make my own universal VGA box (not one i'm gonna stick inside a DC), and what would it roughly cost? or would it just be better to buy one...

I'd say ?10 in parts, if you already have the soldering equipment.

If your not confident building circuits in stripboard from a circuit diagram, it might be easier to just buy one
