College break
So what is everyone playing? Anybody have Baldr Gate Exe or Chaos Filed(if it is released)? I noticed a lot of homebrew releases, are there any really good ones? So how are the new emus(NES, Genesis, Turbo 16) coming along? Has anyone heard from Ian recently?
I am currently enjoying Unreal 2 and Painkiller on PC. I have a whole new rig and I am giving it a thorough workout.
Athlon AMD 2600+ @ 2.15Mhz

768 MB Kingston DDram @ 375 FSB
60 GB Maxtor HD
Aquamark 3 score: 42750
3dMark 01 score: 13852

That's all? That's with 1024x768 with no AA, right? Jeez. Back when I had my 2500+ at stock speed, 256MB RAM and a Radeon 9000 I got like 8500. Now I get like 17,000 with my 9600XT overclocked, 2500+@3200+ with 512MB PC3200.mattthemodder wrote:Halo2, thats about it. I started playing Roller Coaster Tycoon 3, which I enjoyed.
Nice specs, I just installed a VGA silencer on my 9600. Now my overclocked 3dmark01 score is 8104

slower AND much less powerful. 1.8ghz duron is like a 1.8ghz, thats why they didnt call it 1800+ duron =P. the 2500 is considerably more powerful considering its a barton core proc.Xylene wrote:I think he has a 1.8ghz Duron, which isn't THAT much slower than a 2500+ @ stock speed. I know it's slower and less powerful, but what I mean is I didn't think it was THAT much less powerful. Even considering that, look, I had a Radeon 9000 64MB on a 2500+ and get 8500, then I had my 2500+@3200+ and my 9600XT overclocked and was hitting like 17,000. The difference between 2500+ and 3200+ shouldn't be enough to inflate the score much more than I would get with it at stock speed, maybe 1500 3dmarks, 2000 tops, for a score of about 15,000. Not only that, his 9600 is at close to pro speeds AFAIK, which isn't really all that much slower than a 9600XT, and even though the 9600XT overclocks a lot, it doesn't really gain much in terms of synthetic benchmarks. Concluding, he should be getting atleast 10,000 on his machine. Whoa, that was a bit much, heh.quzar wrote:slower AND much less powerful. Edit: I just looked around online and I see a lot of piss poor scores for the 9600 pro, which his card is clocked close to, and it was just topping 10,000 with a 2600+. So eh, I don't know.

i think the difference between a 1.8 duron and a 2500 OC'd to 3200 as well as the ram which is considerably faster (3200 as opposed to either 2100 or pc133) would make the 9000 point difference . considering the processor is close to double the speed, and the ram is at least 1.5x the speed it makes a huge difference, also he didnt say 9600xt, maybe he has a cheapie non pro se or something =P.

He has a normal 9600, and I know he has it clocked close to 9600 Pro speeds, atleast he did the last time I talked to him, and that's before he got the new cooler. What I said is the 9600XT isn't THAT much faster than a 9600 pro.quzar wrote:i think the difference between a 1.8 duron and a 2500 OC'd to 3200 as well as the ram which is considerably faster (3200 as opposed to either 2100 or pc133) would make the 9000 point difference . considering the processor is close to double the speed, and the ram is at least 1.5x the speed it makes a huge difference, also he didnt say 9600xt, maybe he has a cheapie non pro se or something =P.

I need to purchase a volcano heatsink and some arctic silver 5.....my temps are too high. I love my new rig, but man it heats up quick and is hard to keep cooled. I am hitting 58 degrees celsius playing Halo. My room temp is 68 degrees. Athlon CPU's rock though.
I think my 3DMark 01 scores are too low. I have seen rigs similar to mine at 18,000. I overclock at the highest stable rate I can, but I can't seem to reach those scores even with tweaking and tuning like crazy. I could go with better drivers, but the drivers that hit high marks break down on Doom 3, and I need stable drivers. Oh well. I have a good rig and I am happy
