MP3 is MPEG-1 Layer 3. Divx is not "mpeg layer 4". Divx is a variant of MPEG-4 SP/ASP. Anyway, DCPlaya should be capable of playing any video stream ffmpeg is capable of decoding.DCmad wrote:Only mpeg layer 3 (mp3) and mpeg layer 4 (DivX)Yes, dcplaya is a good app.... anyone know why it crashes when playing some mpeg? which mpeg types(layer 1, layer2, stereo and mono sound, mp3 compression.....) it play nice?

uhm...
let's see... my report so far
the Bad
virtual keyboard appears but you can't write anything in the console window.
some spc file doesn't work. (i.e. the pack of f-zero song at zophar's domain)
still no software way to change the nsf file that is playing.
Now saving to VMU works perfectly
The good
audio quality GREATLY improved!
The request
Would be possible to have support for psf files too? or they would be too heavy for the DC?
The suggestion
You should freeze the grafic mode for the first 2-3 seconds while loading the audio files... this way it won't have any buffer problem EVER.
In Sum... GREAT, GREAT WORK!
keep up the good work.
i hope this was useful somehow!

after testing for a while, i agree. dcplaya 1.2 has better compatibility with mp3's. i tested this with 2.0 beta2 and some mp3's just froze the whole app. i tested the same mp3's in 1.2 and they played fine.Pavlik wrote:I tested both beta versions with my mp3 collection and I can say: the best compatibility with mp3's has DC Playa 1.2 and I using this version. Thats all.
DC FoReVeR.!!!
Karsten, thanks for the feedbacks, they are much appreciated. I'm quite pleased about the audio quality that has improved, since as I told you, I cannot really check by myself.
hrb2k3 : About mp3 freezing the app, indeed it's a completely different decoder that is used in dcplaya 2.0 and in dcplaya 1.2. In 1.2 it was xing, which was good but would not support VBR mp3. In 2.0 it is a modified version of mpg123, however it DOES NOT support layer 1 and 2, only layer 3. Actually, I expect it to hang on layer 1 and 2 files. Could you tell me if that is your problem (some of your files are maybe using layer 1 or 2 ? ) If this is not your problem, then that is a more serious bug.
I don't know yet how and when I'll fix that problem with layer 1 and 2 files, but it's possible, it just requires to find proper codecs for them.
I have a temporary hole in my memory, what are psf files already ?
About the keyboard unable to write in the console, could you describe more precisely the problem ? Can you turn on the console window at least ? And is it then that you cannot use the keyboard emulator to enter commands ?

the keyboard appears, but you can't use any button to print the letter
(yeah, yeah, this is shitty english, but here is 2Am...)
anyway any idea about the spc file problem? I can point you to a lot of file that works on pc but not on dcplaya if you need.
MaYBE it depends on what emu was used to rip them?
Any chance to implement id666 tags?
I remeber that:
"The suggestion

,the psf file hope and any way to soft change nsf file that plays without using the keyboard 8virtual or not). i re-suggest the use of the r-L triggers...
2 bad my videos are too high on bitrate or i would be pleased to try them
anyway i'm happy to be useful in any way, i wish i could code to help you....
now i'm going to bed since i'm too sleepy to go on writing in english...

Ok, I'll have a look at the keyboard emulator, maybe I changed something though I don't see what ...
(ETA: are you sure you're using the keyboard emulator properly ? To move the cursor, use the stick, then to click a letter, press X (the yellow button), A (the red one) is a shortcut for ENTER.)
Could you send me one spc file which doesn't work ?
About switching song, I plan to make a GUI for this feature at some point. It won't use L/R buttons since they're already used, instead I'll probably add two buttons into the Desktop manager.
