Man Cooks Lava Lamp, Dies

Post by DaMadFiddler »

KENT, Washington (AP) -- A man who placed a lava lamp on a hot stovetop was killed when it exploded and sent a shard of glass into his heart, police said.

Philip Quinn, 24, was found dead in his trailer home Sunday night by his parents.

"Why on earth he was heating a lava lamp on the stove, we don't know," Kent Police spokesman Paul Petersen said Monday.

After the lamp exploded, Quinn apparently stumbled into his bedroom, where he died Sunday afternoon, authorities said.

Police found no evidence of drug or alcohol use.

Im pretty sure the one I have is just a coil at the bottom (actually it's inside the "lava" when hardened) and is filled with wax and water.

if i dont use my lava lamp for a week or so and i turn it on, the resulting pattern looks a lot like one of those facehuggers in a jar from the movie Aliens. kinda creepy.

I think lava lamps are sweet.
But I like my "space lamp" better. Its the same deal, but instead of wax it's tiny bits of... um... what's the word. It's kinda like confetti type stuff, but made from a foil type material. The water in mine is blue. The light shining on the foil through the blue water onto the wall looks awesome. Kinda like an under water feel. And the blue is nice and calming. I love that lamp!

I dunno, I always figured glitter was more small, like specks of sand. Well, maybe not that small but around the same size.

They're more like tin foil confetti really.

Thanks. Was gonna go with the one I used last xmas, but I dunno... the T-800 skull in flames didn't work too well because the shot was too close on the face. Leaving a little bit of room for the hat, and thus looking kinda dumb. That and I lost the one I had last year, so I'd have to make it again, but I didn't make it last time so I didn't bother

I haven't used my lava lamp in ages. The bulb burned out and I haven't bothered to replace it.

On another (almost) related note. how much computer power do you suppose it would it take to accurately model a lava lamp? I'd imagine quite a lot.
