How do I use my PC as a BBA?

Post by Excessive »

Hello!

I have tried a lot to get my pc to work as a Dreamcast Broadband adapter. But I just can't get it to work. The guide is at this site: http://home.elp.rr.com/terlouw/DCWinMEServer.htm
If anyone has tried this out and got it to work, please give some help!

Thanx a lot

I used the guide at consolevision, I have gotten it to work with ease on 2 different pcs. There was an error on the consolevision guide though, you HAVE to have winroute running no matter what (even if your just web browsing). You'll also need to open up the proper ports on your router, or open them all up. Troubleshoot with a web browser, once you get browsing to work you can move on to games. I don't see why everyone has so much trouble with this.

because not everybody has the same modem. some need a line voltage simulation to work properly. its explained in the guide if i remember correctly.

also its not replacing a bba, if you use your 33/56k dc modem to connect to your pc, even though your pc can send data at high speed, the receiving speed is limited by your dc modem.

Ok, I'll check out the guide over at consolevision. I don't think that it's a modem issue, my modem is the same as the one used in the guide i mentioned.
Thanx for the help so far. :)

And one more question. Which ports should I open up in my firewall to get this to work?

You'll probably have more luck if you try something like this: http://www.freehostsltd.com/sites/dream ... ubild.html.

I've never been able to get it to work without using a device such as the one in that image. I'm also from Europe so that may have something to do with it. The device will also generate a real ring tone, so you don't need to trick your PC into answering.

It's a home phone system basically. The one I use is a device which allows you to connect several analog phones to an ISDN line. I connect both my PC and the Dreamcast to the system. Set up my PC for a dial-in connection and tell the Dreamcast to dial the other line instead of a real ISP number (usually something like **2). This works great and I don't even have the phone system connected to an outside line.

Hmm, that sound like a option... Where can I buy one of those "Telefonanlage"? If it isn't too expensive, this might be worth the try!

I bought mine (the analog phone adapter for ISDN) 2nd hand online somewhere.. paid around 10 euro IIRC.

It's not worth attempting if you're running 2000 or XP, to expand on my last statement. You'd think it'd be a snap to do, since the OS is designed for networking, but nooooooo...... blah.

The PC-DC-Server works on win2000 / XP !
In fact, it's far easier, setting up the incoming connection in win2k compared to win98(thanks god, we don't have to use that crap anymore)

*blink*

I'm a windows 2000 'guru' with a supported modem, and the registry correctly setup, and I've YET to be able to pull it off.

Compared to Windows 9x it's more difficult to get XP to answer the line when there's no actual ring. But if you use a phone system a ring will occur so that issue disappears.

Well, that'd probably make life much easier, but I don't have either the supplies or cash to do that. Bleh.
