Re: What poltcial party are you....
Also--I hate to break it to you, but you may very well be party-less if that's your stance. The Republican party is shifting into the deep-right...a process which started with the neoconservative movement of the 1980s. The Democratic party has been straddling the "moderatism" fence for a while now, and the only thing that really remains on the so-called "left" is the Green party.zerotype wrote:Me I am a liberal republcian.Yea I know rare to see a liberal republcian, but um here I am.So also what is everyone else?
It also doesn't help that definitions have been changing--the Democratic party used to be large-government programming, with many socialist elements (a need which arose from the Great Depression, and just kind of lingered afterwards). However, they've become far more populist in recent years. The Republican party used to be for smaller, more localized control and less regulation...and more limited spending. None of that holds true any more, except parts of the "less regulation" bit. Reagan and "W" don't have anything akin to the same agenda as the likes of Teddy R, Ike, and Nixon...just as Wilson, FDR, and Kennedy were nothing like Clinton.
There are remnants of the old system. Ted Kennedy is a "classic" Democrat. John McCain is a "traditional" Republican, from before the party became the mouthpiece of evangelists and corporate interests. Unfortunately, there's still a very large body of the American public that hasn't recognized the change yet, and supports one party or another thinking they're what they used to be.

Republican. i'll be registered in a month too so there.
DaMadFiddler. i would say the Republican party has shifted less than the Democratic party. (comparing the classic against modern) Teddy R is closer to Regan than FDR is to Clinton. needless to say i have respect for FDR and none for Clinton so feel free to bash my statement and light the flames, but if i wanted to be biased i would have compared FDR to Carter.

I do find myself disagreeing with democrats more often, but I really don't like any parties. What the heck good is the party system anyway...
Seriously What does it truely accomplish other than dividing the country? Without it people would support the candidate they like best not because they are a certain party. I mean a lady I work with said she'd NEVER vote for a republican - what if the rep had MUCH better ideas.
