Connecting other console joypads to DC?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Connecting other console joypads to DC?

Post by davidian »

Hey. When emulating on PC, it is possible to connect SNES, Genesis, Master System etc controllers to the PC, if you use different programs and modify a parallell port cable somewhat .. :-)

Of course, this improves the feeling of the emulated game. So my obvious question is, is there any way of doing this for the Sega Dreamcast, to use with all the neat emulators out there..?

Or is it impossible?

U shud really ask this in the Hardware forum if ur talking about modding your snes joypad (or any other joypad for that matter) to play on the DC, and i'm sure someone has asked the same question in the hardware forum...

There was a web-site at one time which showed off a few controllers mounted on to a Dreamcast controller I believe, which talks of the functionality you want.
If you think typing 'make' is hard, forget coding.
If you can't figure out the commands to DC-Tool, forget coding.
If you think coding is as easy as typing printf("Hello World\n"); , shoot yourself.

Im confused. This topic title says about connecting controllers to his Dreamcast. Yet the topic itself is about connecting controllers into your PC. But either way round the topic wll get moved.

What I meant was that it's easy to connect them to PC, so is there a way of doing it to DC?

How does the PSX adapter work with Nester and Dreamsnes

Post by linkboy321 »

I'm thinking about getting one of DC/PSX adapters and I want to know how well it works with the emulators.

The DC pad works great, but the response time of the d-pad is a little off. Punchout is a good example of this, when the d-pad is pushed left or right, little mac (please Nintendo bring him back, er-sorry, wrong topic  ) is a little late or he doesn't dodge at all.

You know the sidestep in punchout is a little bit of on the real NES also.
It's worse in Nester but i really don't think it will help to get a psx pad...
