Dream Coding Grand Prix 2004 Newly Updated

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Post by WRAGGSTER »

MAjor New Addition is that Quake and Doom Mods will be added to the Beats of Rage part of the Comp.

Its my honour to officially announce the http://www.dcemu.co.uk/dcgp.shtml -->Dream Coding Grand Prix 2004 Coding Competition.

The Competition is a joint competition for the Dreamcast and Gamepark 32 Scenes with http://www.dcemu.co.uk --> DCEmu UK & http://www.gp32x.com --> GP32 Xtreme being the hosts and http://www.liksang.com/ -->Lik Sang are the sponsors of this competition.

Competition Details

The first Dream Coding Grand Prix will be a multi-tiered contest. The competitions are as follows.

Childrens Game/Learning Contest

This is the main competition, the basic goal of this contest is to produce Games, tools apps etc that can be used as a learning device/ educational tool for children. There will be a First, Second and Third Prize for this Contest.

The Mod Contest (Doom, Quake and Beats of Rage)

This is the secondary competition, the goal of this competition is to produce excellent Beats of Rage/Quake/ Doom mods to be used primarily on the Dreamcast and Gamepark 32 but also on systems like the Playstation 2 and Tapwave Zodiac. There will be a first and second prize for this contest.

I was just now thinking, "I should post in there simply to mention how great I think that it is, even though I cannot enter the competition"... So, here it is.

DCEmu UK and GP32 Xtreme as the hosts, plus Lik-Sang as a sponsor? How cool is that?! Not to mention; I think that a new (or only) childrens'/educational title would be a great addition to the DC's library of games, and, a set deadline with friendly competition could bring out the best of what BOR modifiers have to offer!

I'm guessing that a childrens' title will need to have extreme stability. I can imagine kids smashing keys on the keyboard, or using the mouse to click on everything onscreen at the same time, and other such nightmares for event handling...

(Note: I am not a programmer, and as such, I have no idea of whether or not the above scenario would truly be a "nightmare" for "event handling." My apologies!)

It sounds like a lot of fun, and, those prizes are indeed excellent... I wish that I could enter! Good luck to the contestants...
