I set out to do it, armed with a wing and a prayer (and a soldering iron)

thanks guys!
it's great too hear the feedback,
I was expecting someone to say that...
and well, I guess it is... but the Dreamcast is so cheap now, I bought 2 w/7 controllers, and had a NES lying around, so I decided to go ahead and make the mod come to life.
It is possible to load the CD's through the front game loader (but it's tricky)
so not totally a waste of power, but definately a waste of a perfectly good controller and NES :P
I am hoping this will make the main page, or slashdot :D
I hope I can fit another controller in the future for 2 player support.
A Light Gun inside of a NES Zapper might also be possible.

You are a god amongst men! That is one of the best ideas i've ever seen in my life. If I had the patience and a little more skill I would definitely take a whack at this mod myself, but I don't so I'll sit in awe at this modern/retro marvel. Great job!

Awsome! I would so patch the power and AV cables into the back by rigging up the connections... It would look far more original... Good job though man!

ok, let me clear that up...
I did indeed call it a DC mod then a Nintendo mod, simply because it falls under both categories. If I put the title as "Nintendo/NES mod" people would think I installed LEDs or fans etc. into a Nintendo. But it is still a DC. Therefore, I still call it a Dreamcast mod, which has been dubbed the Ultimate NES Mod.

you have a good Idea there!
Since I have written the tutorial, I would accept suggestions as I may begin making these and selling them (when I am not working, I work 12 hour shifts, this mod was expensive to me timewise).
As for rigging up the wires through the back, I certainly wish I had. Mainly because the Audio/Video connecter on the mainboard likes to snap off. Luckily I did put some Goop on there :)
beleive it or not, most of this was rushed becuase I was concerned about it's operation and whether it would fit, and would it be worth it. Well, in the long run, it was a complete success and it was worth it!

I had the exact same idea without the technical knowledge on how to execute it just a few weeks ago. That is if it is what I think it is since the link is dead.

ok
If someone could lend me a FTP dump (007Cheater?)
then I would glady reupload that tutorial
I don't have time for these slow free hosting sites that have poor bandwidth
but I will check other boards as well
xbox-scene is my real home :)

@rattrap: it is a Dreamcast inside of a Nintendo with fully functional Nintendo controller, functional power switch, holds NesterDC and the stock reset button (and start) returns it to menu. I made a few minor changes to the original, for example I put the Dreamcast sticker on the shell and the power LED is blue.

Oh my! That is the exact idea that I had a couple weeks ago right to every last detail. I already have a NES controller mod and thats what got me thinking, plus my old NES sitting here right beside the DC. I would love to see this tutorial, if you can't find hosting could you please email it to me or send it zipped to me over AIM, or MSN.
