Sweet, I would say use xfce as the desktop, if you are using a desktop, and maybe throw in The gimp 2.0, sometimes you need to look at edit images.
Firefox, to browse over to the forums when need be. and thats all i can think of, but mabe all those modules are allready included. haven't looked at morphix. and audacity, if you are going to allow for sound editing at all in this release. or if this is just for the coder, or is it goingto be a complete package?

well i could make it a complete package, but that is a little rediculous. Morphix already has modules for things like this. check it out, I was thinking only of doing stuff essential to Dreamcast development.

Binutils and GCC (SH-4 and ARM versions)
DC-Load IP (IP and serial)
(de)Scrambler
IP.BIN builder
Pre-compiled KOS 1.2.0 (libraries and headers only)
All the tools from KOS 1.2.0 (include stuff like kmgenc, which isn't built by default)
KOS 1.2.0 source code and examples, not compiled
It might be a good idea to have KOS as a separate module. So we have the toolchain and basic tools, and then a KOS 1.2.0 module. We could also have a 1.2.x module (SVN revisions of 1.2.0) and a 1.3.x module. Maybe a libronin module as well.

OK, well call me silly but here is what I invision...
remember, i invision a complete package for everything...
everything blackAura said...
plus DCtool
and other random dreamcast tools...
like selfboot CD tools,
Logo inserter
then...
gnome for desktop
Anjuta IDE customized with app wizards, and custom build commands for Dreamcast
- Also a lot of people seem to use SDL to make there game, then add a few lines of code to port it to the DC. So add in stuff for SDL programming in Ajuta.
gimp 2.0 and cinePaint for image editing
audacity ofr audio editing
(a good prograqm for making video files, need those high quality intro's)
blender for modeling
xmms for mp3 listining while deving
sim - Simple Instant Messenger for communication
Mozilla firefox browser
Mozilla ThunderBird email client
an option for a presistant Home directory, or ability to save settings to HD or USB memory stick, defeinately needed.
That is what i think would be sweet. A complete OpenSource FreeWare package for everything you would need to make a dreamcast game. And of course listen to music while you work.

Okay onece again, guys, if you look at morphix, they allready are setup with thing s like this in different models, this just needs to be very specific dc stuff. I alredy have dctool, ip stuff, etc, so if someone can help me with libronin and any other dc specific stuff.
I guess I can eventually make a full morphix cd, that is ultraspecific with all open source stuff on it. So little help.

I don't think we need Gnome. I think the idea here is to be lightweight. Fluxbox or something like that should suffice. Gnome is a tad large, isn't it?donkeyPunch wrote:gnome for desktop
should probably be optional - again, this should be small. Somebody's gotta find webspace to host this if it's going to be distributed, and bandwidth isn't exactly free. Also, many people are on 56k.donkeyPunch wrote: gimp 2.0 and cinePaint for image editing

Exactly. That, and as I mentioned, if you're going to be distributing this over the web, you're going to want it to be compact. For a desktop, something like Gnome is a bit more than we need - fluxbox, IceWM, xfce... whatever you pick that's small and functional will work. As for audacity, the Gimp, etc... people can download that stuff on their own. At least, the Knoppix remaster I'm using will allow you to download stuff and save your config, so the next time you load it up you can restore it and all your stuff is still there on a Zip or your hard drive. I'm not totally familiar with Morphix, but I think the same holds true there.mogorman wrote:please there is no need for any of that stuff, other modules have it
If you've got a decent code editor (which I'm sure you do), the compilers, KOS... I wouldn't worry too much about libronin. It'd be cool to play around with, but I don't think it's totally needed if you've got KOS 1.2.x and/or 1.3.x.mogorman wrote: now if some one could help me with libronin-0.4 and reccomend any other dreamcast tools than the ones i have ill be able to get it out to the public.

Linux IDE
Just a quick post to tell you about a new IDE that might be of use. Have a look at the ViboDev project at http://optronic.sourceforge.net/sites/projects.php.

Another very nice IDE is Anjuta http://anjuta.sourceforge.net/
But you will need the Gnome libs for it...
