yes people put metal grills on fans, they are called fan grills. You can buy them at most computer stores, but can make your own a lot easier, and cheaper.
Old school.

i dont really have to worry about that now though cause the blades on my fan are pretty small. if i can find a pic on radioshack.com or somthing i'll put a link here.

I kinda took an oath to never buy from radioshack again. At least not my local one. It's run by punk asses, and they charge about 40% more on everything, then the official site does, and they say they don't hafta honor those prices because they are pirvately owned or some crap.

Also they sold me an s-video switch box at the insane price of 40$, and it had greasy fingerprints and dirt on it when I opened it, and one of the inputs on it have reversed stereo. I took it back the same day for another and they said all sales are final.

::sigh:: I really gotta get out of this hick town and back in the city. There is one actual computer parts store and...well here's a few examples of their 'unbeatable prices'.

300 watt atx power supply: $60
17 inch crt flat screen (not flat panel): $180
Small cpu fan similar to the one I used, with no additional parts: $25

But yeah I'm just ganna cut a square piece out of that grill that doesn't even attach to one of my car's speakers anyways. Then cut 90 degree angles inword on the corners, and bend the flaps in so hopefully it will grip onto the fan ok.

i just got done changin out my case on my dreamcast since my old heatsink fan broke. i was going to so somthing really cool with the vent for the internal fan but it ended up being really gay so i had to switch out my cases. if you didnt know i screwed up (no punn intended) my first dreamcast by putting the screws from the controller ports in the wrong place. namely the gpu screw holes and as you all know the controller port screws are much longer than the gpu screws and i shredded the board. one good thing about that is that i have back up parts for most everything except the main board.

have you seen the "dc viper" i'm doing the same thing to the vent for my internal fan. i know it's totally un orignal to copy someone elsed idea but what can i say? it's a great way to dress up that vent.

lol speaking of the DC viper I actually just painted a DC like that and i'm just waiting for it to dry before i put it all together. I did the same vent thing that you're doing, but to make mine quasi-original i added "headlights" to it. Once its all together ill post pics of it.

i check my dc often and i have no signs of heat. anywhere my fans work great. even after keeping it on for about...3 days strait it's still cool as a cucumber. but if i hadnt of put that second fan on there i'm sure it would have overheated by now.

i'm using 3.3 v leds all around except for my power light.

Its super glue or tacky glue or whatever crazy name you might use for it but it basically is super strong glue, but not as strong as apoxy.
