a new version of dcplaya?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

a new version of dcplaya?

Post by karsten »

the last version was quite a letdown... i mean, great as usual but the spc support was buggy (every 2-3 files it crashed) and the NSF support that was ready wasn't included for a release error...

i'm wondering if a new version with the spc file bug fixed and the nsf support re-added is about to come out. It shouldn't be a big problem to fix a small prob and add something that was already coded...

Hope i don't sound too ingrateful, but hey this is my favorite software for the dc and it hurts to see it not completed.

PS: VBR mp3 support would be nice too ;)

some mp3s that are VBR encoded played in dcplaya for me, but you could hear a scratching noise in the background.

and i agree with you, dcplaya is one of my fav apps too.

I imagine it's so that you can stream audio from your home PC.

why you want to stream MP3's from your HDD anyway?
Isn't it just better to run Winamp on the PC with a SoundBlaster Audigy2 sound card and some great Surround speakers and enjoy it with some dope hardware-accelerated visualizations?

Can anyone imagine just how cool it would be to see DCPlaya really become an all-purpose multimedia app (in the vein of Winamp)? Imagine if DCPlaya could play video files in addition to the sound files it can play. That would be incredible. I would love to see that.

Although, I am quite happy with the version of DCPlaya that's out right now. I didn't think it was a disappointment at all. It plays my mp3's just fine. It would be cool to see it play my WMA files, too, but that has already been discussed.

Ok, I think almost all your wishes are becoming true :)

A new release is available on our sourceforge site (https://sourceforge.net/project/showfil ... p_id=62669), it includes

- VBR

- BBA support

- a ffmpeg plugin to play video

- the missing NSF plugin at last

- possibly SPC plugin fixed (but not sure that I fixed the same bug you were talking about here)

Have fun !

WHOOO!!! i'll see if it plays mpegs too. i just wonder if there are any controls for the movie player..?

Or even better, host those images at sourceforge.net...

Alright, so there aren't any GUI interface for the video replay yet, but if you have a keyboard (or if you'r not afraid of using the keyboard emulator in the console ;) ), there are a few commands (type help ffmpeg too seem them all, but most are only for internal use)

ff_delay to set a delay between video and audio in seconds
ff_settings L C where L and C are luminosity and contrast, default is 0 and 1, L is typically a value between -255 and 255 and C a value between 0.5 and 2

It should be able to play many file formats (type ff_formats to see all theoritically supported formats)

Additionally, I wrote a .srt subtitles replayer, just click on it in the file browser while you're watching a video.
