Genesis Plus preview

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Genesis Plus preview

Post by Storminator16 »

Preview release of BlackAura's Genesis Plus port with a menu by Speud & some code fixes by Ice88 (Warmtoe). This is in elf format, so use Elf2bin to create a binary and Scramble to scramble it. I'm sure releasing this in bin format will kill someone's server:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ian_edwards/ice88/gpdc.zip

or

http://www.storm-studios.net/gpdc.zip

Any noticeable bugs or the dreaded "how many roms can this hold" please notify Black Aura in this or another site.

Speud's menu controls:
you can freely browse your cd, everything that isnt a dir or doesnt have one of the predefined extenion (zip/ZIP, gz/GZ, bin/BIN, smd/SMD) is skipped.
press down/up to move the cursor or left/right to change the page.
press A to open a dir or launch a ROM.
press B to open the parent dir.
press X to choose the resolution between 640x480 (default) and 320x240.
press Y to disable (default) or enable sound.
while youre playing press L+R+start to return to the menu.
when youre finished pressed X+Y+A+B+start to exit the app.

I've noticed this from another site: please do not credit me for anything. I'm just a strong supporter of this project ;)

An SBI has been uploaded to DCStuff's SBI page. If you get a chance to test the SBI before we do, please let us know whether or not it works, by replying to this topic.

Thanks.

Why do people like you bother to post? First of all, this emu is progressing fast, and will definitely surpass "that" emu because this emu has the possibility for more features "that" emu will never have. Being open source gives it the possibilies for far more settings, possible online in the future, and other such goodies if Black Aura allows others to continue adding to his project. BA has worked hard getting this emu where it's at, I hate people like you Raven who only see the possiblities in leeching for everything in life.

Besides, the sound in this emu isn't perfect but it already sounds a ton more accurate than "that" emu.

Law, the speed in this emu with sound off is almost fullspeed. Sort of like how Nester DC is almost full speed but technically isn't. Sound on doesn't cause a great desparity in speed. With sound on it's still faster than Super Famicast & Dream SNES. Then again, I better hold my tongue because I haven't tried out the latest SFamicast yet. I've been too busy :D

If you are referring to what I think you are, it's

A. Stealing someone else's intellectual property.

B. Far from perfect and a piece of garbage anyway. I'm sure the legal Genesis emulator(s) being worked on will far outpace that "thing" given time.

So, you were worrying about what the casual warezer would think. C'mon, Quzar, what you were saying on the other site was just too over the top for me to stomach. I dunno, I truly shouldn't care.

Hate is a very strong word Storminator16, I'm not defending people for using illegal software, however if you don't agree with someone there are more civil ways to handle it.

Second of all an emulator is legal to program, but how many people here can honestly say they have never used commercial roms in say, a snes emu or as discussed gen emu, and yes I know PD roms are available, but come on, deep down everyone knows what these emulators are programmed for.

P.S I don't want to start a flame war over this, I'm just stating things how I see it.

will's comment was not about the legality of emulators, they are perfectly legal, as long as they are not rip of commercial product.
anyone who is trying to belittle this project with such argument as "but the other emu is better anyway" should be banned, as simple as that.
this project is very promising, the sound is already implemented and apart from a sync problem its a lot better than what was done with the sega smash pack before. the speed is a lot better in most games as well. i have no doubt it will be better than the illegal rip very soon, because like will said it has the big advantage of evoluting, unlike the illegal rip of smash pack. at least try it and youll be amazed.

Yes - Storminator informed me that this emulator has always supported zipped roms (I didn't know either). So, you can zip each of your roms, and put them anywhere on the disc you want.

Just goes to show that programs are never really released - they simply escape. I wasn't planning on releasing anything until around now-ish (the current version I have is much better), but...
Raven2x wrote:but we alraedy have a perfect Gen emu.....
No, we don't. The Smash Pack is hardly "perfect", and using it with anything other than the original 6 games off the original GD is (more) illegal anyway.
Waste of time.
Well, I'm sure you're not doing anything more important with your life, otherwise you wouldn't even bother posting.
law wrote:can someone tell me about the appr. state of this emu ? sounds, fs, speed ?
Speed: 90-100% with no sound, slower with sound
Sounds: Slows emulator down, skips/repeats like crazy (unless someone's been tweaking it), otherwise pretty good
Graphics: Major graphics glitches all over the place, because the rendering code is only four days old

This thing's always supported zipped ROMs, so no problems on that count. It's also always supported BIN and SMD format ROMs too.
