Senile Team- Age of the Beast

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Damn! This looks very, very sweet. I didn't like the original BOR, it felt too "generic" if you know what I mean (although some of its mods are truly awesome) but a freeware D&D: SOM (or D&D:TOD for that matter) lookalike will Pwn me big time |/| :jumpinggrins:

I don't know why, but I like very much the original Beats Of Rage without any mod.

before this was announced, team senile had already dished out some info (in their forums) on their next project:
Beats of Rage Site Admin wrote:- It will be based on an adaptation of the BoR engine
- It will not be called "Beats of Rage 2", nor will it be backwards compatible with BoR
- It will support running
- It will support animated backgrounds
- It will support 16-bit, 44100 KHz stereo sound (MP3)
- It will feature an all-new, original soundtrack (composed by Capcom Lord)
- It will feature all-new, original characters
- It will support 4 players
- It will be awesome
- It will still take a long time to finish
now that i look at the pics, i'm even more excited than before :D

what pisses me off is my BOR freezes on the ending every time, I like the original the best too, I am looking forward the castlevania MOD, I hope I am not nickpicking but I notice they are way too many mods out there, should us dc lovers come up with something original or just keep using the same "smack! Smack! AHHH!" engine, I mean beat em ups are sweet but still they're WAY TOO MANY bor mods coming, I am pretty much done with mods I just want the castlevania and if Ian is still working on TMNT, I will snag that too then I am done with BOR. what would made BOR better would have been alternating level scrolls (go up or down, like tmnt arcade version} and weapons would be sweet too, but I agree with the aspect of it being generic, I would love to see a plat former or adventure engine made for DC, I would not mind mods for that , cuz you can do lots of things to make it interesting in platformers in beat em ups, you just pow pow smack ah! once again I am not complaining I am just expressing my views on this MODs deal, I would .like to see some originality in the DC scene one day. remember this is just MY opinion try not to take it to heart.
no other company in the gaming world will ever have the originality that sega and nintendo have to offer, PEROID. xbox and sony take a HIKE!!!!!

Looks great! Anyone know if the colour pallet will be better than 128 colours?

There was a mod I was thinking of doing, but it's damn near impossible on 128 colours. It just doesn't look good

BOR was released for pc, Dreamcast, PS2, xbox, and GP32 (and is currently being ported to Linux). We're aiming for a similarly universal release for Age of the Beast. When the game is close to release we will contact the porters, so everyone can enjoy Age of the Beast :)

Looks good. Me like.

But, as Demonius said, keep those BOR mods coming, but stop it for goodness sakes!

BOR has a lot of very good reusable code so it didn't suprised me that they would make a game based on the BOR engine. There goal is to create the best homebrew game of all time and they may truly get there.

Totally amazing what Senile is trying to accomplish. I can't wait!

Hmm you could do that with bor now a platformer you can make holes in the ground you can scroll up or down you can make parts of the background breakable you could collect coins.

Takes some thought and doing some thing more then replacing the real bor pak with new skins. Can be done.

The one thing that would make Age of the beast absolutely perfect would be if they made it a hack'n slasher like Guardian heroes, or the D&D arcade games. Sadly, I fear that they won't go that far, and the programming for the Levelup system might be too time-consuming... But then again, I'm just a novice programmer. "freeware D&D: SOM (or D&D:TOD for that matter)"

That'd be cool but you could also pick up D&D: Collection for the Sega Saturn, comes with Tower of Doom, Shadow of Mystara, and a 4 Meg cart. I own it and it rocks my socks.
