"Proof of Life" Release

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

"Proof of Life" Release

Post by Strapping Scherzo »

Here's something to make your mouth water a little. I give you a version of Super Famicast that loads a cute little public domain ROM called Frognes. It's a clone of Frogger. Controllers are working so you can try to play it. But At 5 fps, it's a little frustrating. I'm providing a zip for each kind of loading method possible: ELF for serial upload, RAW binary for boot disks, and a scrambled binary for self booting.

http://www.sch3rz0.com/superfamicast/elf.zip
http://www.sch3rz0.com/superfamicast/raw.zip
http://www.sch3rz0.com/superfamicast/scrambled.zip

Enjoy.

I'll Test it in a short time. Let me the time to find my coder cable...

Is it able to lauch other roms than the one provided? Where should they be on the CD?

In that case, does it support disc changing?

Great Thanks to you, Scherzo, for launching this emu. If I wasn't such a bad programmer (I'm only able to program correctly Casio and TI calculators, and not in ASM :( ), I would probably try to make it!

Keep up the good work

No one has said how it is yet. I tried burning this to a disk, but the bin won't load. It just hangs at the Sega screen.

You have serial output running from the binary, scherzo. It's not burnable at the moment.

 Sorry Danatka but it only loads that one rom in it's romdisk. This is release is only to show I'm not BSing about the whole project.

I'll admit that I didn't try burning it to CD yet. I need to pick up some CDRs first. I'll do what I have to do to get this test booting from CD.

As far as I was aware, that was no longer an issue. Quake, for example, if littered with printf calls, but still works fine when burnt to a CD.

Damn, I just wasted 4 CDs trying to get this to work. It hangs at the SEGA screen just like WillSams said. I tried calling dbgio_disable()... didn't work. I tried setting passing NULL to ps_set_printk but the ps_set_printk symbol is not in any of the libs. Anyone know what the problem is?

Which version of KOS are you using? Damn, it's been since September since I've looked at any DC code. I can't recall what caused this problem for me using 1.19...

I solved the problem. It was the fact that startup.o wasn't the first object being linked. All is well.

I'm using KOS 1.20

You should use a boot discso that you don't waste CDs.

Just use demo menu. If it boots as a scrambled bin throught that program it will selfboot you never need to test this. You could also use the bootdisk app i have on my site but demo menu is much better.

He was testing self booting. Earlier versions weren't booting.

n00bs are so cocky. The sega screen is the screen that says licensed by sega...ect ect. No Emulation isn't strange to me. I love it. Lets me not have to goto the basement find my SNES box hook it up, buy batteries for my super scope and clean my carts. With Emu's I pop in a cd to my DC (current console) and plug in a light gun. AND BAM its done. :D
