Flicker Mad

Anything DreamSNES-related can be asked in this forum, such as general questions about the emulator, how to burn it, etc.

Flicker Mad

Post by Gokujin »

How come the new DreamSNES 0.9.5 screen flickers a lot more than the previous version. The ingame can be changed to use off or smooth but chunky is just plain mad. Also the menu screens are effected by this too.

I am running in 60Hz mode and I have a 28" Sony Trinitron flat screen so the TV is not at fault here.

Any suggestions?

Also the speed isnt a lot better than the last DS release in my opinion. I wish Super Mario World could be played with full sound ano 0 frameskip

Yep, full-screen PAL 60hz gives me a headache... turn it off full-screen and it should be fine :(

I think the DreamSNES team should implement a fullscreen mode which is basically a stretched version of the Fullscreen OFF option kinda like the NesterDC fullscreen :)

I run it full screen (smooth, TV mode: on) @ 60Hz on a PAL TV & there's no flicker, the only flicker I've seen is when you first load DSNES up & you see those credit screens, but once it gets to the menu it's fine.

That flicker continues on the game in mine... might be my 100hz TV....

Hit it off full-screen and it's fine though

the flicker happens in 50 or 60hz for me BUT it works fine none full screen. Trouble is on 50hz There are huge boarders on my tv. Oh well its a great realease ive found a few games that work 100% with sound like Zombies and BattleToads Double Dragon.
Im a bit disapointed that zelda has a bit of frameskip but its playable :)

Good Work :) hope this flickering bug goes tho

mine filickers pretty bad as well.
It's annoying since the previous releases worked fine.
Even when i don't use fullscreen it flickers.
60hz on a 32" Philips Matchline Wide TV (not 100hz) PAL.

and i'm getting really pissed on the flying hearts blocking the menus all the time, and the music cracking and popping....

But I really love the improvements in the release and I'm so happy that they did release another version instead of waiting til it was 100%.

Hmmm, weird, I think I might have to try it out on another TV & see if I get any flicker with it.

Remember that there are different video circuits in Dreamcasts with red logo and Dreamcasts with blue logos. Before you compare parameters like frequency and TV-brand you should make sure that the one you're talking to has the same kind of Dreamcast.

I have a fix for the problem,

turn off full screen mode, that fixes the image in 60hz mode, 50hz mode still flickers.

I'm so disapointed that this problem is in there because I was really looking forward to the new release :(

I hope they release an update soon that fixes this problem.

works fine for me

although on 50Hz the screens up at the top with about 3 inches of black underneath, but 60Hz fixes that

there's no flickering, the music i put on works fine, isn't grainy (i think that bits the bitrate of the original MP3 'cos it's grainy when played thru' winamp)

i play full screen, no problems at my end, although some games are VERY slow.
but others are actully faster than the original

EDIT: the TV i play my DC on is 13 years old, and works in 60 Hz, new fangled wossanames, never work proper

You all know that was my main problem with the new release, the screen's just way too bad, if they found a way to reduce the shakyness it'd be perfect.

3 problems with dreamsnes

1.Speed
2.Screen
3.Saves
