"Programming savvy" is an essential component of good programming of any kind. And the people making DreamSNES have plenty of programming savvy.UberMan5000 wrote:I wonder why something as simple as the SNES can't ever run properly on something as powerful as the Dreamcast.
Is it that speed and power isn't all you need to make it work properly? Is programming savvy also an essential component of good emulation?

secret of mana runs half descent with trans. off. music still sounds pretty good 2. if u turn off the sound and trans. for Secret of Mana 2/seiken densetsu 3, it runs pretty well also. those are almost the only games i play on DSNES anymore, because they are ALSO 3 players

SNES Game the speeds of which do not torment me. . .
1 - Chronotrigger
2 - Legend Zelda: Link to the Past
3 - Donkey Kong Country 1 & 2
4 - Lemmings
5 - Lost Vikings
SNES Games the speeds of which give me ulcers
1 - Super Metroid (too stinking choppy on my DreamSNES for some reason)
2 - 7th Saga (How does this one get so slow?!)

Don't think of them as Orcs. Think of them as XP with legs and axes.

hm......VERY strange! Chrono Trigger and Zelda run the same way that metroid does for me! Why are there always ROM differences? If we all had the same games then we'd understand each other more, lol. Most of the games you listed are unplayable to me on DreamSnes......strange indeed
Spreading his inquiries all over the net!

I got a different Zelda 3 ROM a while back and burned it onto my newest ROM disk to see if it was any better. The improvements were actually really good, and the ROM ran at full speed.
Before, Link would begin his sword swing, but since the ROM was so slow I usually got hit because the timing was all messed up. So Zelda 3 definitely belongs on this list.
I'd give a link to the ROM download... but ya know...

Re: yeah right
well i have lufia 2, so far from what i have seen, it's the only rpg playable on dreamsnes that runs at about 99%, to me it's fast for an rpg on dreamsnesaced411 wrote:I hate to rain on the parade, but NONE of those games mentioned runs full speed or plays like it does on the original console. Doesn't anyone notice the jerkiness or the missing frames? Doesn't it make you dizzy like me? Playable? Sure Enjoyable? Possibly Full Speed? No
I'm not dogging on dreamsnes, it's awesome. Just don't mislead people into thinking what it can do.

RPGs I've found that work well (almost, if 100% full speed) are:
Live a Live
Fire Emblem 4
Fire Emblem 5
Platformer:
Dounkey Kong Country 1-3
That's all I can think of off the top of my head. OK, so I really didn't think very hard at all but hey... its a start isn't it?
There is no way that the DKC games run at full speed on DSNES (even with the sound muted and transparency off).
