Easy Port of SCUMMVm?

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Easy Port of SCUMMVm?

Post by SW4EtErNiTy »

I was wondering how easy a port of the SCUMMV program would be? If you have not heard of it go here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/scummvm

It is basically a port of the old Lucas arts graphic adventure game SCUMM program.

Perhaps I didnt make this sound interesting enough. this lets you play Monkey Island, Monkey Island 2, Sam and Max, Indi Jones and the infernnal machine, etc...

An easy port was made in the way of Pocket SCUMM for the piocketpc (and as far as I knowif it can be done the pocketpc it can be done on DC...) http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~aces98/PocketSCUMM/

Please someone with decent enough knowledge just take a look around and tell me how big a job it would be.

Hmm... sounds like the Sierra AGI resource interpreter engine. But now just for early Lucasarts games. Ganksoft made Sarien DC of it. But I don't know the same is gonna happen with this one.

I just had a look, its all object based c++, which is fine by me, but not by my compiler.

All in all, the system looks pretty simple, but point and click adventures on the dreamcast??

This would be perfect practice to mess with the DC mouse keyboard! plus its easy and peopl love Monkey Island.

another game is Day of the Tentacle (great game)

Oh and its Fate of Atlantis, not infernal machine (doh! wayy diff games)

These games have quite afantical fanbase, and its not too hard. Good project to get your name up there.

LucasArts & Revolution have produced the best point and clicks ever. Ive played on all 4 Monkey Islands and Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis.

All good games, just a pity that monkey island 2 (and Indiana Jones) had soooooooooooo many disks on the Amiga, it was useful to have a second disk drive :)

Maybe I sghould just do this. I understand exactly how he ported it to the PocketPc and I have ported things to the PocketPc, butnothing to DC...

Just a wuick question that may seem stupid. If something is compiled for the SH3 processor, will it work on the SH4 and/or visa-versa? If so I could kill two birds with one stone and port it over to the HP line of PPC's..

It'd be a completely different job to run on a PPC vs the DC. PocketPCs version of WinCE are a lot closer to Windows than the DC's version is. This assumes you'd even use it that way. You'd also have to completely handle controller input seperately, etc, etc.

As for the SH3/SH4 question, SH3 code should be runnable on the SH4, but there's a lot more to the systems than just the processor.....

It looks like your prays have been heard! This from the mainpage:
DC Emulation wrote: Mark Thomas is porting an interpreter of SCUMMVM, which plays games such as Monkey Island 1 & 2, Day of the Tentacle and more, which come from Lucasarts ( great games! ).

You can download a binary image to upload off of Mark Thomas's DC Dev site here.

Thanks to Stalin and thanks to Mark Thomas for this wonderful port and e-mail from DCDEV.

How would you overcome the problem that in all versions of this interpreter the games run from a hard-drive??

*runs around in circles screaming like a child*

WOW, I cant WAIT to play this port!!!!

Thankyou and goodluck Mark Thomas!

First of all though, I own both the CD versions of Day of the Tentacle, Sam and Max hit the road and Indiana Jones and the fate of atlantis.

What i'm wondering, is will these versions work? (with speech?) or will I have to find the disk version?
