I need a new computer - where to buy?
Does anyone know the best place (US) to get a new computer (no monitor needed)? I want the best for the buck (less than or equal to $1000 USD).

I reccomend looking at Tiger Driect, they sell computers and all the components.
Heres a great system:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+ Processor
256MB PC2100 DDR RAM
40GB ATA/100 7200RPM Hard Drive
16X DVD
24x10x32x CD-RW
ATI Xpert 2000 Pro Video w/ 32MB
10/100 NIC and 56K v.90 Modem
Wavetable Sound Onboard
3-Piece Speaker System w/ Subwoofer
Microsoft Windows XP Pre-loaded
$899
They also have a equally priced P4 system if you have a particular preferance. One thing to keep in mind, don't bother with the refirbished models especially the Gateways.

Peronaly I would buy a Laptop off ebay. They have compaqs build in 2001 going for 999.99 dolors. If you just kept updating them they will stay good. These computers rock for travaling because you can play games and junk on the road. And you can always get a docking bay that lets you use it as a Dektop Computer. But if you want just a desktop I would agree with him. Tyger Direct. ... Unless you are a gamer ... Then you nead an Alianware pc.
Im just whondering how you made that money...I want a Laptop![/url]

He sayed he wanted a Computer not a Moniter with computing power!
Look....Some macs are ok (like the G4) but a iMAC is not a good system. I say just go with that one off of Tiger Direct.
**Liquid walks away from computer with his 42" Katana heading for the nearest mac store....

1. You spelled Monitor wrong AND you said "sayed" which isn't a word... What a surpriseliquid2 wrote: He sayed he wanted a Computer not a Moniter with computing power!

2. G4's were $1799....I doubt that's his price range
3. iMAC will rule... You have no clue what you are talking about and you are blindly insulting a great company

Well I was referring to Tiger direct, but it's a good rule to follow no matter what. the TD computer will be just fine for gaming...and although they are cool, alienware computers (and any custom comp for that matter) are very over rated...your paying a lot more for little added return.bo150000 wrote:When you say 'refirbished models' do you mean only from Tiger Direct or simply stay away from them in general?
One thing I do recommend about that system I mentioned is upgrading the video card. Tigerdiret has fully licensed Geforce cards for fractions of the cost of the full name brand.
