SYSTEM 16 beta 2 out now

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

SYSTEM 16 beta 2 out now

Post by reaper2k2 »

RADsoft prsents SYSTEM16 SEGA BETA 2 10/2/03
=============================================================

THE new version has these feature's
==============================
-fullscreen postion now right
-sound now much better but not stereo
-sound does not have the tick buzzing sound in most games now
-fullspeed with out sound
-with sound its about fullspeed on most game's not all
- new games supported
=====================================
Some of the fix's like the video mode are now fixed i could not stand the buzzing ticking now its gone if it does start up on a game some times
its due to the last game dirtying it so if you have a fav game select it first
the FM voices are harder to hear and not over loud now so 2 sound problems fixed THE SOUND IS NOW NOT tHE SAME so get verison 1 if you dont like it
--------------------------------------------------------

==================
Not all the games on the list work but they dont on mame36 16 ether as i added some more games all the one's that worked before still work
and some new games plus all romsets of the same game like set 1 2 3 now are there to try

some of the newly support games have major problems and it will take porting the new mame system 16 driver to my source base
to fix them

ONLY TRY OUT RUN WITH the sound off its a dual system16 game so its 2 times as slow the analog stick is the steering wheel and to go forward press it forward and it works etc

2nd version use's parts of my old quake sound system so it sounds less stereo but is faster but any ways thats why its a beta! has a AM radio sound

but speed improvement is worth it to me at this stage

if you want full stereo type sound get version 1 but it has a ticking sound to go along with it !

BURN info
================================

1ST_READ.BIN is scrambled for selfbooting

you must burn the intro2 dir on the cd and the 1ST_READ.BIN on the root with a ip bin you must have a roms dir with your zipped romsets in the dir

Im not including a ip bin as thats not realy my job get one out of nesterDC or other emulators the one i have has a add for a site in it

burn as you would any other self boot

ALLSO ITS only beta 2 and is not perfect if you got the first one you see the screen fix and thats worth it to most people thou im not using the same video routine now so its not the same

i know some people will not like the new sound but it's all i could do for now to get rid of the ticking sound but there is a slight static sound on games now i just noticed some as on RADquake HEH!

Well, very nice to bring a new version out and all, but can we actually see a full list of the games supported by it, including the new games (mark 'em as "new" if necessary)?

When I burned the first version I simply put all the roms (36b16 sets of course) that were considered part of the "System 16" set (details from System16.com) in the roms directory and saw for myself which ones would get picked up. Quite a majority of 'em were detected, with some not appearing on the menu at all.

NO roms ever get found on the disk the list is drawn from the games support that does not mean the roms are on the disk it works a little diffrent then other emu's

so just because it comes up with a big list that means nothing it will every time even if you put no roms in there

If there is a rom that matches the name of the driver then it loads

so the list loading up has nothing to do with what roms are in your roms dir

SO the list the load's up is all the games that are supported!

It works just like CPS1/2 and New System Neogeo emulation does. Where files must be named 100% right and they show all the games even if you dont have them.

I'd love to just get a list of the needed roms, just so I know what is needed to burn with the new release. What's new/added in this release compared to the last in terms of games? Nothing is stated in the readme except that new games are supported.

Does anyone know which games have been added in this new beta release? Has anyone tried this new release?

Reaper never ceases to amaze me. With the progress he's making, maybe someday we will see TMNT mame, with this kind of quality, or even A Golden AXE: Return of Death Adder MAme, (I would love to actually play that thing on a console!) :mrgreen: In either case, Repear has truly mad bounds and leaps at the DC emulation scence' he should get some kind of award or soemthing

I'll bet Beta 3 is perfect. This one is much much much better than Beta 1.

Thanks Reaper.

ARe you planning on releasing SBI files for this emulator? I'd love to add it to my inducer cd with your other releases, but I guess they all have to be converted to sbi for that. What does it take to create an sbi anyhow?

You need the SBI making program from burnero's site (I think it might be included as part of Selfboot Inducer 2), a scrambling/descrambling program, and a text editor. I think there's some tutorials somewhere.
