FOF is coming today!

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Despite the fact that I will be burning it no matter what you answer, I have to ask; Is this game fun without a dance pad? I mean, it is a DDR type game, so how good is it with just a controller?

The discjuggler image didn't work for me with cdirip, so I used plain files to burn it.

Looks like it'd be fun to play, but it's not working with my playstation dance proformance II mats with adapter. They work fine for DDR 2nd mix... I'll have to e-mail them about it.
I played it for a while just using the controller though, works okay except you can't hit opposite directions at the same time. Still good enough to whoop the computer set on the lowest AI. I think it'll really be fun against another human, no matter what input device.

The plain file doesn't work with demomenu or dchaker, it only work with a selfbooting solution, just to mention (maybe it's a problem with the dc memory, cos it's possible to reach the title screen then there's a message saying that a texture cannot be loaded ).

I've also tried FOF, and it's great !! it looks well , it sounds well , but it's very hard. I loose every time

this is very impressive

even fun to play on a controller!

a "non-vs" mode (to emulate DDR) would be a fun bonus

some more popular electronic would also be cool...i'm sure big DJs wouldn't have a problem with their music being shared in a freeware game.

Burning woes, dance pad stuff

Post by Dan Potter »

Hi all, this is Dan. Good to see people are liking it so far ;)

On the Nero image troubles, I downloaded the latest Nero before creating the image, so this was probably the problem. That was probably not the best of ideas on my part. :) But the new Nero images that Zac made apparently work fine, so I copied it over to the redfutura mirror as well. Reports so far say, the DJ and raw files also work fine. So far so good :)

On the DDR pads, there have been mixed reports about that. They're _supposed_ to work, but some people have been having troubles. It's kinda hard for me to diagnose because of course we're not using Sega's tools for accessing the hardware and I can only test with a limited number of things that I happen to have laying around here. It does work with my dance mats with a "SmartJoy" adapter, if that means anything. :) I'm not sure what other types there are out there, but if anyone has data points on what sort of adapters work and which ones don't, please email me about it and I can at least add that to the FAQ. (dpotter.cagames@com -- switch the. and @).

I also haven't used any of those DemoMenu / DreamInducer type programs, so I'm not sure what is involved in getting it setup for use with that, but I put the files into a self-contained dir to try to help with that.

Yes, no problem with that . Maybe I should rename 10fof.bin into 1st_read.bin, but maybe it's also a problem with my mutisession disc, too many session I don't know ?

Also when the game is halted I had a screen with that info :

Assertion failure (sofware failure)

Source src/texture.cpp:52 (load from file)
Expression false
Message
(none)

Maybe Dan can help with this info ....

But again it works fine with my selfbooted image :) so I'm happy

This game really is great...I need to burn a swap CD.....

I think if all the problems are worked out with the adapters and the pads I will buy a pad for this game.

PS - I have "Got No clue" on repeat on winamp and don't know when i'm going to turn it off......

PPS - what is the "correct format" for a swap disk anyway?

Was the zip corrupt? Or did the image just not burn correctly?
You might need to upgrade to the newest version of DiscJuggler to burn the DJ image (I'm not sure). Or you could just convert it into a Nero image with cdi2nero and burn with Nero (it worked for me).

Swap CDs

Post by Dan Potter »

Swap CDs aren't just a flat CD-Rom of OGG files and DWIs, unfortunately. Maybe I should have made it accept something like that, but it does require a specific format at the moment.

I hope to have a guide posted up pretty soon on how to make one (and an example). I might go ahead and do it tonight since the demand seems to be high :)

Ha, thanks a lot man, I'm already starting to convert my mp3s to .ogg format....It's really going to be kickass.

I was going to make a swap CD with the same structure as the game CD. But couldn't find the step info (maybe encrypted in song_meta.pak or something) so I figured I should wait.

The actual game, converting to .ogg and (ugh) homework will keep me busy until then.

As long as it doesn't use BMP changes, freezes, or hold arrows it's okay right?
