Emulating specific arcade titles

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Emulating specific arcade titles

Post by eballz »

I am constantly impressed with the evolving "afterlife" that the DC is enjoying. I visit this site often to see who came up with what next :D

My main interest in DC Dev is arcade emu, more specifically later titles such as MK1, 2 and 3, and other similar titles. I see that the current mamed code and memory limitations of the DC keep these particular titles from running. But I know it can be done - and even with good performance if dedicated coder were up to it. I see other stand-alone titles have been ported such as Smash TV and the like - so my main question is: Can a stand alone emulator be developed to emulate this hardware for these games only? I really think a playable version of MK on the DC would be an awesome addition to the library.

I strongly agree. It would be so cool to play the mortal kombat series, Or even just the first mortal kombat on the dreamcast. Even If it did't have sound (probably couldn't run very well with sound). I think mortalkombat is a damn good series that could be broken down to run on the DC (The rom files arn't that big).

Maybe without sound, and frameskip of 2 to 5, it'd might be feasable. But don't hold your breath for full speed and sound.
