By request, here is a logo based on that wallpaper. It wasn't easy because the wallpaper had so much going on, but here's a attempt.

With my logo I decided why not put the characters played on the emulators. IMO the characters look sharper than the pictures of the emulators.

the deadline has now arrived the staff will pick the best 10 and things will go from there. the new logo will be in place from the 25th september, as soon as we have sorted the top 10 out ill post them here

Anyway, I though about using it as an entry, but there were three main reasons that halted that idea:

A: The animated gif is too big for a main page logo. It's not that bad as a sig, but for a page that all visitors are going to see, it might distract the 56k viewers (like myself).

2: If I made it unanimated, you have to admit that a lot of the coolness would disappear. Plus having it unanimated in my opinion would distract from the original picture and make the grid appear as if it was Photoshoped in, which it wasn't, which is what made the place where I took that picture so cool.

C: It just wouldn't look that good on a white background.

As for what logo I think should win, I might post my thoughts later, because surfing through 11 pages of logos on my Dreamcast Web Browser is quite difficult.
