This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

dreamengine turbografix emu report speed and games working

Post by reaper2k2 »

Big thank's to the author of this emulator, its dam fantastic ......

Now on to the games.
I' ve tested 105 games so far and I was surprised to find that almost all games worked, even 512k roms.
Most, if not all games work close to full speed, 95 to 100%, and are very playable.
It has a nice simple menu. To get back to the menu after playing a game, just hold down all the buttons in (the four coloured ones) and press start.
This allowing you to play more games with out turn it off on.

Bug reports

Post by EighteenthVoid »

The games do run at a decent speed, I wouldn't say 95-100%, more like half speed, but still decent for a still early beta. The menu is very simple, but there were a few problems certain games that would show up with the name of another game on the same line...
(eg: Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (U).pceKickBall (J).pce) and the sencond game is listed again underneath it. but when the game was selected, (Keith Courage in Alpha Zones (U).pce) the game in the list before it (Katutobi Takuhai Kun (J).pce) would load up instead. I made my iso with long filenames (-l), joliet (-J), and rock ridge (-R) attributes, so that might have had something do to with that.
Also i noticed while playing Legendary Axe/Makyou Densetsu that I died if hit just once (not supposed to happen)
But, shit, this most promising, keep up the good work.

I agree. I think it is more like %50 speed than 95%. I'm not complaining. I just don't want people to be mislead thinking it is as playable as say Dream SNES.

Edit - Sorry for being an ignorant ass. It was a while since I last played it. It is way faster than 50%, but I still say the average game is more like 85%-95%.

We i dont no what verson you playing with cuz the one i have is much more playable then dreamsnes its faster by far no one will be misslead i have a real turbografix machine and the games are runing close to real speed sorry to say thats how the machine runs well my machine i have playes the games allmost the same as this emu so i was basing the speed ........ on a real machine i have its been moded for pal australia

my dreamcast is moded one if that makes any diffrents but 50% speed no way some games are over speed one of the shooter games is too fast to play ............. 75% to 85% is the lowest speed ive seen on the roms i tested wich were romcenter fixed and named

try magic engine then this on the same rom this little or no diffrents in speed my test pc was a 233mhz 64 meg of ram it ran the same speed as this emu does and you have to pay for it THIS AUTHOR HAS DONE A GREAT JOB ON IT

one thing my fav game world jockey plays 100% speed is why im happy with it

Yeah, I don't know what up with your TG reaper, but the one I used to play on played a lot faster than this. That also goes for playing under MagicEngine as well. Maybe your mod slowed down you system a little?

well for me its very close to full speed

Post by reaper2k2 »

Maybe.
My TG plays games not much faster than this emu.
I always thought it was not as good as snes or megadrive. Anyway, try World Jockey it runs 100%. It is my fav. game. There's nothing in the way of horse racing games as good as this one, except perhaps Stakewinner on neogeo.
My tv is pal, and the system is moded to output pal (Australia).
Since I got the real thing, the screen kept flipping, and the emulator does not.
I'm happy with this emu as it's running as fast as dreamsnes, or as playable as it.
So there is nothing really to complain about.
It's only a first version, and to be this good is, well, amazing.
Saying that it's running at the 50% is not true. Darcnes was running at 50% and its not playable and will not load roms larger then a bit over 100k. This emu loads the larger roms, no worries.

If you love the TG, then this is your nester. For example, try some of the emulators this was based on, on the pc they run no faster.

My judgement is only mine as I've never seen a unmoded TG running on ntsc.

Try this game: Super ST. It's running over speed!

The in-game menus run slower, but the in-game speed is faster.
I have noticed this so dont judge it by the start screens, or title screens.
(play a little lol)

It just depends what game you are playing not all run at near 100% but some do.. R-Type runs at very close to 100% speed.. If you don't agree with me take a look at the video of it playing on this page.. Bonk runs at about 50% speed.

I just gave Dream Engine another go. I tried AfterBurner, Bomberman, Bonk's Adventure, Kieth Courage, R-Type, Space Harrier. They all seem to 95% like reaper said, but I wouldn't say 100%. I think I thought it was slower before because they games I tried were Splatterhouse and Blazing Lazers. They seem more like 75%. The Street Fighter 2's I tried were messed up like he said. The weirdest thing about it is the timer goes from 99 to 00. Space Harrer is really fast though.

I tried this emu with several roms, and works great. Hopefully we'll see all games working fullspeed in a later version, but most games I tried are pretty playable. I put all games uncompressed, made the ISO with -R -l switches, and I had no problem with menus, they worked fine. Do anybody know if this emu supports zipped roms?
