The MS Visual compilers carry a hefty price tag.
Still get djgpp first as you will want to learn "pure" C++ without all the crap you have to go through for Windows programming.

Just get a free compiler. http://www.cygwin.com . Mostly used by windows users, who like developing on the Dreamcast.
If you think typing 'make' is hard, forget coding.
If you can't figure out the commands to DC-Tool, forget coding.
If you think coding is as easy as typing printf("Hello World\n"); , shoot yourself.

For the third time get djgpp at http://www.delorie.com
It's a free 32 bit C/C++ compiler for DOS great for making little programs and learning how to program.
If you've ever used one of Borland's old IDEs for DOS you will infinitely familiar with RHIDE.

You don't need a Microsoft product.

djgpp also comes with a good graphics library, in allegro. I think, anyway.

Thanx guys...

I was just told by a programmer to get Microsoft basic or C++.
He said it was really ez and it was a cool program to learn in.

I might check out djgp, but I don't want anything confusing....
I used python for a while and it got real confusing....
I know that in the schools they use Microsoft basic or C ++..

just one more thing please...

I don't really know anything about programming..

"If" I were to get Mircosoft Visual Basic or
Mircosoft C ++ which one should I get?

I don't know anthing about how to program?

Is basic for people who are starting out
and is C ++ for people who know what their doing??

I don't want to get C ++ if it's gonna be about stuff I don't know??

But if Basic and C ++ and the same type of program, just ones better then the other then I'll know what to get.

Please help me with this question and then the topic can be closed.

Personally I'd get Visual Studio.
DNR the current kickass dc programer. Thanks
for the emulator I've been waiting 2 years for.

Thanks to Reaper2k2 also for showing interest into WSC emulation.

Visual Basic is mroe like dumbed down C++ than BASIC imo...It's very easy to make Windows proggies in it as compared to doing them in C++ (at least I don't know how to make 'em in C++...)
You can go anywhere you want if you look serious and carry a clipboard.

ahem, you send warez thru PM u get it taken away, that simple.

As for the software, Visual C++ is only good for WinCE dev i think, other than that i'd go with Borland or the like... also, shop at college bookstores, they have programming stuff really cheap, i got VB for 100 bucks because they consitered me being in high school a "student."

MS is really loose in the student discount things.

I agreee with 404NotFound, get a Borland compiler (Borland C++) instead of a microsoft compiler.
If you do want a Microsoft product, just get Visual C++, because Visual Studio, which includes VC++, VBasic, ... is more expensive (logically).
If you wanna create programs with a GUI under Windows, then choose Borland C++ Builder, very easy to use. It's a pain in the ar.se to create user interfaces with Visual C++ :)
