Thats because I moved it CG ;)

No, this is where it belongs... you originally posted in DC Main; and as this has nothing to do with the DC....

Well, the PS2 should emulate more, since it HAS a home brew scene. The XBox has some "personal" emulators ported by profesional developers, which will probably never see the light of day.

But for the record... I think theres only 1 emu on the PS2, and none (public) on the XBox

Heres the PS2 one. http://snes-station.emuunlim.com/

The MAME for XBox port in question is here:

http://www.otakunozoku.com/xbox/index.html

Someone who appears to be working for Angel Studios decided on a lark to port MAME to the XBox using an XBox development kit his studio had. He posted the results to the above back in June or July.

About a year prior to that he dabbled in MAME for the PS2:

http://www.otakunozoku.com/ps2/index.html

This one didn't make as many headlines for some reason.

But there are no emulators in the Dreamcast sense of the word - nothing on these pages can be downloaded or tried. And this is someone who had access to the development software/hardware/compilers.

Ghost has a site at http://www.xbox-emulation.com/, but I think that's a "just in case it turns out XBox can run emulators" site. It's a cool page nonetheless.

If you want homebrew console emulators, Dreamcast is the only hope unless someone figures out something out. Remember that the only reason the DC Emu scene got this far is because the emulators are so accessible (i.e., no mod chips), something Microsoft and Sony likely see as a mistake on Sega's part (because of the fact that the same principles can be used to pirate software) and won't let something like that happen in their hardware.

Although interestingly MS aren't releasing the X-Box in China because of piracy concerns - so I guess MS are bracing themselves for *someone* cracking that protection...

DC emu is the best scene right now. But for the future? I would say Xbox takes the cake. Why? Read on...

The Xbox uses an x86 processor, the modified Pentium III. And a similar, but modified and a lot more powerful, NV2A(similar to Geforce3 but different). And the best thing, no operating system. Popular emulators can be ported with ease, assembly or not. Its in a matter of weeks until the homebrew dev scene for the Xbox takes off. Hell I bet we'll see an N64 emulator running full speed on the Xbox soon enough.

Playstation 2 has a more complicated processor, harder to program for(not incredibly hard, I tried it before). But SNES-Station does look good.

Xbox emulation/homebrew scene looks bright for the future at the moment. But on the contrary, no development information just came out.

But looking at this; http://dev.xbox.com/dev/independent.htm, I'm just wondering is Microsoft going to support the homebrew scene?

Well, with the USB downloader acting like a coders cable, it seems that PS2 dev is gonna explode soon. however, if the hardware hackers do manage to get at XBox, it's VERY similar archtecture to a PC will come in handy ;)

The OLD XBox dev kits were PC's running an early XBox OS. The new ones are XBox's with extra hardware (2 network cards, 2 HD's etc.).

I hope to get my PS2 chipped in the next couple of weeks, and my emus will get ported soon after. I'm really looking forward to coding he PS2 again.

Actually there was a contest at xbox.com and they gave away one of the dev kits, w/o the xbox OS and programming tools of coarse...so that means theres at least one out there. I would imagine it wouldn't be too hard to get a comp case like that though.

well, in the tally of RELASED emulators, the PS2 is up 1-0 with the PS2Linux port of SMSPlus.

However, PS2 has the added advnatage of being compatible with a few PS1 emulators, which consist of a few arcade ones, a NES one and a Spectrum one :)
