Nomad and triangle screws

Post by Quzar »

I was the proud owner of a SEGA nomad. Now i am the not so proud owner of a sega nomad as that it stopped working. Im good with a soldering iron and finding any kinds of physical problems that might affect it but... the screws require triangular bits to remove! I have see these kinds of screws many places b4 but never a screwdriver. I spent a week going to every hardware store in the area searching but found nothing. Does anyone know where i can get one? Has anyone else run into this problem?

If they are the same as the Gameboy security screws you should be able to find a suitable screwdriver at Lik-sang

Found one:

From what I've heard, carefully using a small flathead screwdriver you can gently open the 60 degree screws. I've never tried this myself as I have a feeling I would end up stripping the top part of the screw.

I think the tip you need is called "gamebit". You probably won't be able to find it anywhere other than online; I know that lik-sang has a number of these. The link above should work perfectly.

There probably is a screwdriver for it, but I've found that needle-nose pliers work well enough.

If you are talking about the "bolts" the same as those used in the Megadrive/Genesis game cartriges then friends say taking a cheap flatheaded screwdriver (one which is easily deformed by handtools) and filing a channel in it to leave two 'prongs' works.
Sort of like this lame diagram

Hey if it does not work. Maybe you want to try contacting sega-parts.com.
I hear that they do repairs on older sega products. Including many of our beloved DREAMCASTS.

I hope this suggestion is of any use to you.
