Mario Kart 8 is still the hot-ticket item here, and we actually broke out Chu Chu Rocket with some friends a couple of weeks ago. I'm also working on Shovel Knight for 3DS, and I recently completed Steam World Dig. For the last couple of days, I've been replaying Aria of Sorrow for GBA. Eva's playing Last of Us (she got it for her birthday last month).

This season I've been mostly playing Watch Underscore Dogs. It's...ehhh. Basically Assassin's Creed without the intriguing historical settings that make that series unique.

A dull GTA-like with some ropey stealth mechanics and a strangely unsatisfying hack gimmick.

You can't knock it for content though.

i think rondo of blood for the tg16 has gotta be one of the best 2d castlevania game; even better than super castlevnia 4.

So it's a 2D Castlevania ranking you want?

Let's see...

Symphony of the Night (still the best, despite a few rough edges) (PSX/Saturn)
Castlevania 3 (NES)
Dracula X: Rondo of Blood (PC Engine)
Dawn of Sorrow (DS)
Aria of Sorrow (GBA)
Super Castlevania 4 (SNES)
Circle of the Moon (GBA)
Bloodlines (Genesis)
Portrait of Ruin (DS)
Harmony of Dissonance (a fitting title, given its awful soundtrack) (DS)
Castlevania (NES)
Chronicles (PSX)
Castlevania 2 (NES)
Lords of Shadow: Mirror of Fate (3DS)
Legends (Game Boy)
Dracula XX: Vampire's Kiss (SNES)
Castlevania Adventure 2: Belmont's Revenge (Game Boy)
Order of Ecclesia (DS)
Castlevania Adventure (Game Boy)

I'm ignoring the download-only titles for Wii and XBLA/PSN, neither of which were very good. I'm also ignoring variants and spinoffs, such as the arcade game Haunted Castle, the original MSX title, and Kid Dracula, because seriously, who's going to bother with those?

I've played all of them with the exception of the one for snes. Figured that was just a port of the one for pc engine. Lol.

That's what people had asked for at the time, but it's actually a completely different game. It's ostensibly the same "chapter" of Castlevania, with the same characters, story, and (to a degree) locales, but the gameplay is much more stiff and linear like Castlevania 1. The graphics and sound are better in some ways, but overall the SNES title is a vastly inferior game... though it is the second most valuable, after its PC Engine counterpart. It's not a bad game, it's just not the masterpiece that it tried to imitate.

Incidentally, I have a Super Famicom copy to sell, if anyone's interested. (I originally bought that because import copies are less expensive, but I have since found a US SNES copy.)

Skyward Sword, it really is a good game if you can manage get over the "all games with motion controls involve swinging your arms around like a pleb" misconception...

No More Heroes, while it has plenty of flaws, is actually much more fun because of the motion controls. It adds to the visceral experience of the game, and helps you feel a lot more immersed in what would otherwise be a rather bland button-mashing experience.

I just traded some extras in my collection to fill in a few of the remaining gaps, and as a result, I've started Illusion of Gaia for SNES. Never played it before. I'll be at PAX for the next few days, but I'm taking my SupaBoy, so I can play it when I'm back at the hotel.

Professor Layton & The Curious Village.

I own every single Layton game but have never completed, or put much time into any of them. I'm going to try and fix that...then I have the same situation with Phoenix Wright...then finally play Layton vs Phoenix Wright and pat myself on the back.
