Re: dRxLaX
So in 2006 when I said "I'm working on it"...
Well here you go, almost done, and just in time for the new release of KOS 2.0 as well.
What you see below is running on my Mac, but a backport to the Dreamcast is very likely once I've finalized features and such.

Current status: Everything but sound is implemented, graphics slightly updated (bending at the edges). Some of the old replays still make sense =)

Re: dRxLaX
Not yet, I'm still working on bringing the code into a more stable manageable state. This however shows that I've managed a reasonable approximation of the gameplay in the dreamcast version as what you see is based on replaying input data recorded on the dreamcast some odd 11 years ago.dreamcast-news wrote:It's DC version ?
Here is a video of the first round, but capped from an emulated dreamcast (thus the low framerate):

The movements and placement of mines and firing of shots seem reasonably accurate, but the mines seem to move slightly differently, as seen by the fact that the red ship surives in the original and not in the recreation. But it is close enough that I feel confident in checking the "recreate original Dreamcast gameplay" box.
You might also notice that I've worked on the graphics, adding bending on the edges and double or quad drawing items that are close to the edges, as seen in this image: .
I achieve the bending effect by rendering to a texture in the GPU memory and then overlaying that on a 3D model. I'm a little unsure if the Dreamcast has hardware support rendering to textures, but I'll see when I (at some point) start backporting the codebase.

Yes, you can do render-to-texture on the Dreamcast. In fact, there's a topic where that's been discussed in the past week in the Programming Forum.dRxL wrote:I achieve the bending effect by rendering to a texture in the GPU memory and then overlaying that on a 3D model. Thanks, found it: viewtopic.php?f=29&t=102536
Backporting is to DC is still some time in the future however.
