Ordering DC SD card reader from http://dc-sd.com/

This forum is for discussion pertaining to homebrew and indie software for the Dreamcast, such as homebrew games, emulators/interpreters, and other homebrew software/applications. Porting requests and developmental ideas are not to be made here; you can make those here. If you need any help burning discs for homebrew software, this is the place to ask as well.

Ordering DC SD card reader from http://dc-sd.com/

Post by Multimedia Mike »

About a month ago, I came to learn of the existence of Dreamcast SD card adapters. I googled for such a beast and I found http://dc-sd.com/. The slick page, PayPal option, and relatively low price (almost, but not quite, $19.95, order now!) made it frictionless to order. So I did.

I never even received any confirmation that they received the order. I was a little worried after nearly a month had transpired. I had searched on this forum to see if anyone else had ordered from them.

However, if finally showed up yesterday-- total shipping time: nearly 6 weeks. But I have it. Here's my, umm, unboxing.

Here's hoping that A) it works; and B) I have time to find out in the near future. In the meantime, I thought it would be nice if the forum had some record of experience dealing with dc-sd.com (review: it'll arrive, eventually).

For the future, the Goat Store has started carrying Dreamcast SD adapters for about the same price, and they are both very reliable and incredibly supportive of the Dreamcast scene.

I wish they start produce manufactured sd adapters not DIY ones.

The quantities needed for custom molds are pretty high. From what I've heard it generally doesn't make sense unless you're making 100,000+ units, which would be a lot for a DC SD adapter. Low-volume vendors exist but the unit price is usually pretty high since you're amortizing the cost of the mold (which is a precision-machined custom tool and thus can cost thousands of dollars even for a "cheap" one) over fewer units.
