Burning Problem
I have me a copy of Shenmue [PAL] and an American DC.
I did the logical thing downloaded Utopia boot disk, as you all know the thing isn't the most effective boot disk for Dreamcast, it got stuck at around 90% every time.
So I decided to find Gameshark CD-x, downloaded it and then burnt it.

This is where the weirdest thing of all time takes place.
The disk doesn't boot it takes me to the DC main menu/bios (whatever you want to call it).
I retried to boot the disk from bios only, it showed the intro and went back to bios.
Retried it several times.

Finally got fed up.
Downloaded a selfboot game (Fatal Fury: MOTW) exact same problem, goes straight to the bios every time you try to start it up.

Utopia works and all the other GOAT games that I have with me work as well.
So i'm really pissed off.
Help me out, please.

Re: Burning Problem
Not sure what's happening there... I seem to remember having a similar problem, but it must have been many years ago.
Insane homebrew collector.

Re: Burning Problem
Try recreating the IP.BIN. In some cases, scrambling the 1ST_READ.BIN is also necessary.

Re: Burning Problem
If you need sort of import games loader disk i recommend Dreamcast Import Enabler. (If your talk about license copy) There is a copy floating in internet but i cant give you a link because it's not allowed to talk about piracy here and you can easily find it by yourself.
Buy more independent Dreamcast games:

Re: Burning Problem
This guide has some info, and a link to the mexboot toolkit. In many cases, patching the IP.BIN and (maybe) the 1ST_READ.BIN solves the problem.cube_b3 wrote:^ Yeah I got no idea what an IP.BIN is.
How will I ever recreate it?

Re: Burning Problem
I have no idea if it will work or not, but you might try booting the game by my PSO patcher/loader. It'll complain that its not PSO (obviously), but it might just work to boot it.
No guarantees, because there are plenty of games it won't boot properly, but its worth a shot at least.
Of course, it sounds like you might have other problems (like a dying/dirty laser), which would obviously prevent things from working. It could also be the CD-Rs you're using. As crazy as it sounds, I've found that sometimes certain manufacturers CD-Rs (and sometimes only certain batches of them), just do not work with certain Dreamcasts...

Re: Burning Problem
Well my laser is in tip top shape.
Also the cd-r is fine as Utopia worked, the other 2 didn't.
I'll try your booter... but what I desperately need are like a dozen mod chips for my dc to put this shitty region lock problem to an end.

Re: Burning Problem
Hey, I just saw DC-SD adapter on ebay with DreamShell.
Is it possible to boot games via Dreamshell?
Edit: I thought about it for a second and realized just how stupid that question was.
