Shenmue: The Movie

Post by cube_b3 »

I wanted a couple of friends to get into Shenmue, but since the original was a very slow paced game I thought we could just watch the movie and get into Shenmue II directly.

Unfortunately after watching the movie again i've realized it simply doesn't do justice to Shenmue.

It is quite bad, even with the Japanese voice actors. I personally feel it is the editing they've trimmed it so much that it feels like i'm watching something similar to The Last AirBender movie.

To much crammed in to little time.
Is it just me?

P.S. The saturated colors don't help either.

It better be a physical release in order for me to go buy it.

I literally just head about Shenmue HD. Praise Jeebus! I have more copies of Shenmue laying around than any other game. I've sold off entire collections of games, but never Shenmue. <3.

heh, damnit! Was hoping I could edit before anyone noticed. Then I went off to edit another post. Had two half thoughts and tried to put them together as one. Sorreh.

Sega is waiting until they are ready to announce Shenmue 3 before they put out the Shenmue HD games, so they are never coming out.

I've tried so many times to play Shenmue, and I could just never get into it. I was always really impressed with it both technically and artistically, but I just couldn't stick with it far enough to find the "fun" in it. Eva's been wanting to play it once she finishes Conker, though, so maybe I'll be able to enjoy it vicariously through her.

I understand exactly what you mean, looking back on it, I'm surprised I was able to finish both games. The game sucked you in and made you feel like you were there. I've finished each game once and I'm not really sure if I could ever play through them again. I might try someday.

Me neither. The introduction takes about half an hour, is completely unskippable, and both times I tried playing the game I didn't save it because I don't like to save too early, so in the end I simply can't be bothered to spend another half hour watching the entire introduction again every time I try to get into the game.

Ha I think that is a big part of why I've never played it again. I'll pop it in ready to give it a go then that long ass intro plays and by the time it is over I don't even feel like playing anymore.

I mean, I can't disagree the game was pretty boring at times. And I know exactly what you mean about the opening being way too long. It's whats stopped me from multiple playthroughs, but I mean, really you would've only had to sit through it once had you saved it.

I've actually managed to play the original ones at least 2 times.

Watched Shenmue movie both in English and Japanese.

Unfortunately I've never really played more than an hour of Shenmue 2.

Also you should save as often as you can in Shenmue it takes 80 blocks for a reason!
And it doesn't effect your game score on anything.

Good to know. I hate it when games gives us different endings based on the number of saves or in the amount of time spent. RE is very guilty of this.

I still can't believe how good Shenmue still looks for being 12 years old. Anti-Aliasing goes a long way. And hi res facial textures. Bump-mapping helps too.

Ah I didn't understand why you wouldn't save frequently. I hardly play RE games, so I was unaware of this.
