iPhone Recommendations
I finally got to the top of the waiting list in China and picked up a shiny new iPhone 4. I haven't followed the iPhone scene at all since the original came out, so I command you all to post game and app recommendations in this thread, and I will thank you for it.
PS No Angry Birds pls kthx.

Re: iPhone Recommendations
You've got good timing--it seems everyone and their mother is running pre-Valentine's Day discounts this week.
Gaming:
- Blimp
- Cut the Rope
- Dungeon Hunter (Diablo clone)
- Game Dev Story
- Graal Online (MMO Zelda)
- Grimm (Edward Gorey-esque physics puzzle platform thingy)
- Hook Champ (and its sequels, Super QuickHook and Hook Worlds)
- I Dig It
- iBlast Moki (fun tactical puzzle game)
- iDracula (quick little 99c dual-stick shooter)
- Monkey Island remakes (and there are many more, such as Beneath a Steel Sky)
- Mr. Driller (yes, the iPhone controls work pretty well for this)
- Myst and Riven
- Oregon Trail
- Peggle
- Puzzle Quest
- Robot Unicorn Attack
- Rolando 2 (similar to LocoRoco)
- Shift
- Soosiz (think simplified, 2D Mario Galaxy... platformer involving jumping between many different spherical planets with their own centers of gravity)
- Space Invaders
- Spider: the Secret of Bryce Manor
- Star Defense (possibly the best of the zillions of tower defense games)
- Sushi Cat (in case you're bored of Peggle but want something similar)
- Today I Die Again
- Topple 2 (think "backwards Tetris")
- Trism (simple, addictive puzzle game)
- Warfare Inc. (Starcraft clone)
- Words with Friends (or the free version, Words with Pirates)
- Zen Bound
Useful Apps:
- Air Sharing (use iPhone as wifi storage device)
- Fring (best IM app)
- iDos (DOSbox emulator, into which you can inject pretty much any programs you want)
- Navfree USA (free turn-by-turn directions app)
- Now Playing (location-based movie times, reviews, locations, trailers)
- Opera Mini (in case you want a different browser)
- Pandora
- Remote (use as iTunes/AppleTV remote)
- Shakespeare (free, complete indexed works of Shakespeare)
- SoundHound (whistle or sing a bit of a song, it'll tell you what song it is)
- Splice (free video editor)
- Touch Mouse (use iPhone as trackpad for computer)
- Word Lens (augmented reality app that translates writing in real time through the camera)

Re: iPhone Recommendations
Thanks for the recommendations guys. I picked up most stuff. Some of those prices are crazy stupid cheap. Street Fighter IV was on sale for £0.59. That's not even money. Only got the lite version of CivRev for now because I've never played Civ before.

Re: iPhone Recommendations
My impressions so far...
Considering where I am, Google Translate is an absolute godsend.
I subscribed to The Guardian app - I finally have some sort of English newspaper to read.
Most other apps are useless to me though. Facebook, Twitter, Dropbox, Youtube etc. are all banned in China - while any sort of media app usually has rights issues.
Gameswise, I'm really liking Gameloft's rip-offs of things we'll never see on iPhone: NOVA (Halo), Eternal Legcacy (Final Fantasy XIII), Sacred Odyssey (3D Zelda with your 2 horses, Miya and Moto), Dungeon Hunter 2 (Diablo).
EA have some really cheap franchise tie-ins that are all 100x times better than I thought they'd be. Like Hasney mentioned, Mirror's Edge is amazingly good. But even my 59p versions of Fifa 11 and NFS Hot Pursuit are getting some playtime.
I'm suprised nobody mentioned Infinity Blade or Plants vs. Zombies - I love both of them (although I already beat the latter on PC)
I liked what I saw of CivRev Lite so picked up the full version. Now I just need to learn how to play it.
My only disappointment so far is Zenonia - lots of places made it out to be this great 2D Zelda-like RPG, but it feels more like one of those hacknslash by-the-numbers free Korean MMORPGs to me - complete with shitty English and nobody online.

Re: iPhone Recommendations
I liked Mirror's Edge, finished that after a few days of playing a few mins here and there. I tried NBA Jam on both my iphone and ipad and it works fairly well.

Re: iPhone Recommendations
I can buy the apps from the store, I just can't connect with them. My VPN is SSL rather than the usual PPTP. iPhone doesn't support it. You need to install certificates and whatnot.

Re: iPhone Recommendations
I think the only reason Zenonia was such a big hit was because it really was the first big RPG for the iPhone. I know that's why I picked it up. I played about 10 hours of it and had fun, but it is definitely topped by other games now.BoneyCork wrote:My only disappointment so far is Zenonia - lots of places made it out to be this great 2D Zelda-like RPG, but it feels more like one of those hacknslash by-the-numbers free Korean MMORPGs to me - complete with shitty English and nobody online.
And contrary to popular vote, do not get Game Dev Story. You will lose days in that stupid game. The two weeks spent playing that game are like a blur to me.

Re: iPhone Recommendations
Just picked up NOVA 2 for 59p in Valentines Day sale. Worth every penny. I never thought I'd be playing online multiplayer FPS on my phone...but here we are.
