One of the best indy games I've ever played.

Source available (Quake 2, version 3.21)

The art-style uses very simple geometry and the lights could be reduced to like 1 or 2.

Wonder if this could be ported to makaqu ?

Possible, but not likely.

The assets could be converted for use, or easily re-created, but the gameplay code would have to be done from scratch.

MakaQu is an engine port of Quake 1, which uses a custom language called QuakeC with which to define gameplay. Quake 2, which this game is based upon, has it's gameplay coded and stored as .dll extension files. So the two are incompatible.

So yes, the game could be re-created in MakaQu with some degree of effort but a direct port involves getting the Quake 2 engine working on Dreamcast, which isn't a project likely to be tackled by the few remaining Dreamcast programmers here.
