A look at an early build of Viva La Samba
I know lots of people around here were looking forward to me releasing Viva La Samba DC back in the day. I wound up leaving the project towards the end for Elysian Shadows (our current project).
We have uploaded a video to Youtube as a portfolio to show off our old projects. Viva La Samba is the last thing that I show in part 2:

A few other of my Dreamcast projects throughout the years may be seen as well (including Null and the Particle Demo).

Yeah, you got like a later build than what I found. Hopefully I'll find the later build eventually.Quzar wrote:I remember you sending me one at some point that actually had scrolling thingies and samba monkee.
And I almost feel like going back and fixing whatever the hell was causing my Null elf to murder the Dreamcast.
Thanks, nico!

Shouldn't it be "viva el samba"?

Samba ends with an a, so I assumed it was feminine. Wouldn't it be Viva el Sambo?Stormwatch wrote:Shouldn't it be "viva el samba"?

¡¡¡ELDUFFO O MUERTE!!!
It's funny when you are trying to speak in spanish AWEhAUWehAUwhEUah.
Yes, samba is femenine, but the "a" ending not always means that is a femenine word, like "agua" (water), you say "EL AGUA" not "LA AGUA".
It's "Viva la Samba", Samba it's a Brazillian Music Style, it has many variations like Pagode and it's often played with guitar, cavaquinho (a small 4 string guitar) and pandeiro. I don't know why Sega called "Samba de Amigo" and the monkey appears with mexican clothes and piñatas: IT'S MEXICAN OR BRAZILLIAN???
Also the maracas are often more used in caribean rythms like Salsa, Rumba, Wawanco, etc.
So why don't you call it "Viva la Salsa"???
PD: I can play the pandeiro. AWEHAUwheUAhwUEH.
PD2: Sambo is a Finland word.

Re: A look at an early build of Viva La Samba
Haha, thanks, Guaripolo. I totally took Spanish 1 and 2 in high school, so I at least figured my noun gender was correct.
And it's not "Viva La Salsa," because then it wouldn't have anything common with "Samba De Amigo."

Re: A look at an early build of Viva La Samba
In portuguese, samba is masculine; "o samba".Guaripolo wrote:Yes, samba is femenine, but the "a" ending not always means that is a femenine word, like "agua" (water), you say "EL AGUA" not "LA AGUA".
Because, with the other meaning of the word "salsa", people could think it's a "Cooking Mama" style game.Guaripolo wrote:Also the maracas are often more used in caribean rythms like Salsa, Rumba, Wawanco, etc.

Yeah you're right. But in spanish it's femenine (i don't know why, maybe because in Argentina we have a Folkloric rithm called "Zamba" -it has nothing in common with the Brazillian "Samba"-).Stormwatch wrote:In portuguese, samba is masculine; "o samba".Guaripolo wrote:Yes, samba is femenine, but the "a" ending not always means that is a femenine word, like "agua" (water), you say "EL AGUA" not "LA AGUA".

Nah, I have the source to everything you saw in the demo. I may also have the source to a later build, but if not, I still have the source to the file streamer.Nico0020 wrote:so do you have nothing left to work with on viva la samba?
It's possible that this might show up as a minigame of some sort in Elysian Shadows. Very possible.

Yes, but "Viva La Samba" has better alliteration and flow.

Re: A look at an early build of Viva La Samba
Since it comes from Brasil, shouldn't it be "Viva o Samba" in Portugese ?
Also I would like to see "Viva el Sampo", featuring Vikings shaking two hams around! Although that would probably make no sense sound-wise...

Yes, viva o samba seems more accurate.
And about Viva el Sampo: ¿will it include manowar songs????

Re: A look at an early build of Viva La Samba
How about using a black metal soundtrack, and calling it "Viva Satán"?
