2 dreamcasts, 2 dreampi, 1 ISP, no simultaneous connection ?

Sylverant is a homebrew open source server for Phantasy Star Online. Dreamcast users still play PSO online with this server even today! This is the official forum for both the online game server as well as the open source project itself. Feel free to post and get a gathering started online! We can also show you how to get connected!

2 dreamcasts, 2 dreampi, 1 ISP, no simultaneous connection ?

Post by maldoror68 »

hi guys,

I want desesperatly play PSO with my son but :

Here is my (crazy) config :

-2 dreamcast pal,
(with 2 japanese modems
2 voltage line inducer for the dreampi)
-2 pso official and legit gd roms (US ver 2.0) with différent serials and access keys
-2 dreampis who share different ip adresses under my FAI box
-one sylverant boot cd
-one FAI with a router and multiple ethernet jacks
2 vmu and two characters / saves

my problem :

i can't play SIMUSTANEOUSLY on sylverant with my 2 dc !

if i connect them not simustaneously it works perfectly

but if i connect them simustaneously, the 1st one who makes the connection "takes it"
and the other one hangs at the "4 flipping hexagon screen"

any idea ? any solution ? it's because of my unique "FAI global IP" ?
can't sylverant not allow multiple players from the same ip ?

help ! :|

You might want to ask on Dreamcast-Talk. I use a BBA, so I have no idea what steps you'd need to take to make two DreamPis work at the same time, assuming it's even possible.

Two people from the same IP address can definitely connect to the server at the same time (or much of my testing of the server code would be very difficult). There's probably something misconfigured somewhere along the line with the DreamPi, but alas I'm not sure what it would be.

I'll second the suggestion of asking at DC-talk.

thanks mates, i opened a topic on dc talk.
to be continued ;)

it's probably not sylverant server fault, i tried simulatenous connexion with chu chu for example on one DC ,and alien front online on the other DC :

same result occurs : the 1st dc online takes the connexion, and the other one times-out.

Judging by that other thread linked on DC-T, it appears the pi has a static IP, so you need to go into the configuration scripts on one pi and change the IP from .98 to say .99 in order to use two pi's at the same time. I don't know which script has the static IP address, though.

maldoror68, did you ever find a solution to this? I'm trying to do the same thing with my son (two DCs, two DreamPis, etc.) and can't connect both at the same time. (Trying to find the DC-Talk post mentioned earlier...)
