Server Event: Wondrous Winter

Sylverant is a homebrew open source server for Phantasy Star Online. Dreamcast users still play PSO online with this server even today! This is the official forum for both the online game server as well as the open source project itself. Feel free to post and get a gathering started online! We can also show you how to get connected!

Server Event: Wondrous Winter

Post by BlueCrab » Fri Dec 21, 2018 4:45 pm

I promised another server event by the end of the year, so here it goes. This one is quite a bit different than previous events though…

Event Information:
Start Time: December 21, 2018 @ 23:00 UTC (@000)
End Time: January 21, 2019 @ 23:00 UTC (@000)

Description:
The weather outside might well be frightful, so it’s a good thing you’re probably not playing PSO out there. Collect metallic prize tokens in-game to trade in for various in-game prizes in January!

This event is open to all versions of the game currently supported on Sylverant.

Prizes:
Prizes will be given out to participants that place highly on the leaderboards for the various statistics this event tracks. More information on these prizes will be given at a later date.

(Not So) Fine Print:
  • This event, like previous events, requires you to have enabled /trackkills on your account while logged in (with /login or /tlogin). It is only open to those with a registered account on the Sylverant website that have registered their serial number and access key on the site.
  • This event tracks various statistics during your gameplay, including the number of enemies you have killed. Also, kills and various other events that happen in game may reward you with a bronze, silver, gold, or platinum token. These tokens will be able to be traded in after the event.
  • The list of prizes that can be traded for after the event will be posted at a later date.
  • The /trackkills command must be run on each registered guild card in your account in order to make progress on that guild card.
If you used the /trackkills command in the earlier events, unless you have since disabled it, you will be able to collect tokens and track your statistics.
  • Cheating of any kind (be it by way of using a cheat device such as a CodeBreaker or by abusing game bugs) is not permitted! Anyone caught cheating in any way is subject to being banned from the server. This event is meant to be fun for everyone, not for a small group of cheaters to run away with it! There have been people disqualified in previous events — don’t become the next one to be disqualified for cheating!
  • Statistics will only be counted on ships running at least Git revision 562 (check by running “/ver” in-game). As of right now, this means that kills on Palmacosta and Vega will not count (this will be updated if/when the administrators of those ships update the code).
The Leaderboard on the website will not show results right away, as I have to update the website code to look at the new data for the event. However, you can check your progress in-game by using the commands /showkills and /tokens.

Please note that there are a few bugs that have been found already. I'll try to keep this list up-to-date as bugs are found and fixed...
  1. Kills/assists in quests don't count (Fixed in ship server revision 562)
  2. Token drop messages take up two lines on some platforms
  3. The leaderboard on the website isn't correct
  4. Token drop messages about other players wrap mid-word on some platforms
  5. /showkills and /tokens do not work until you join a team on a ship supporting the event for the first time during the event
  6. Hitting traps generates tokens incorrectly
  7. Holding two/four person switches down generates tokens incorrectly
  8. Hitting boxes has a chance to give everyone in the team a token
  9. Hitting boxes gives no chance at getting tokens (fixed for free play in ship server revision 570)
  10. Starting a quest with /sdrops turned on can cause issues
  11. Boxes don't properly drop tokens in quests

As of this morning, there is now a penalty for playing in a team where you are overleveled. This penalty will slow down your kill counter and will vastly decrease your chance of getting token drops. This penalty will get worse the more overleveled you are for your team's difficulty and will get much worse if you are very overleveled.

You are considered overleveled for a team if you are over the following list of levels in the specified difficulty:
  • Normal: Level 30
  • Hard: Level 60
  • Very Hard: Level 120
  • Ultimate: No overlevel penalty
The penalty is lessened for those who are actually helping out players who are not overleveled -- but it does not go away completely (to discourage helpers from just doing all the work).

Prizes are now available for you to trade in your event tokens for. You can reach the prize list by using the /tbronze (for Bronze Tokens), /tsilver (for Silver Tokens), /tgold (for Gold Tokens), or /tplatinum (for Platinum Tokens) commands in game. You cannot run these commands outside of a team (you'll get an error message if you try). When you redeem for anything other than tokens, the selected item will drop where you are standing -- so make sure you have inventory space for the item and it is highly recommended that you don't use these commands if anyone else is in your team when you do so (just to make sure nobody steals your items).

Here's the list of prizes and their prices:
For Bronze Tokens:
  • 1000 Meseta (1 token)
  • 1 Silver Token (10 tokens)
  • Monogrinder (10 tokens)
