New Dreamcast Game: Fast-Striker PreOrders Open

Post by cube_b3 » Tue Aug 31, 2010 4:01 pm

When we reported earlier this month that NG:DevTeam might release their brandnew Neo Geo shooter FAST STRIKER for Dreamcast, we didn't expect that preorders would be opening just a few weeks later:

FAST STRIKER features six stages with more than 40 unique enemy types, 3D backgrounds, and six detailed and fully animated CGI bosses.

The game emphasizes on scoring so there are three very different game modes of varying difficulty (NOVICE to MANIAC), each utilizing a different scoring system.

Game Features
  • 6 Stages
  • 3 Game Modes: Original/Maniac/Novice
  • Elaborate Scoring System
  • Up to 180 Enemy Bullets Simultaneously on Screen
  • 40+ Fully Animated CGI Enemies
  • 6+ Huge Fully Animated Boss Enemies
  • 3D Scrolling CGI Backgrounds
  • Constant 60 fps
  • Difficulty Rank System
  • Internet Ranking via Code
  • Supports VMU, Standard Controller & Arcade Stick (buttons are fully customizable)
  • Compatible with NTSC and PAL-60, S-Video & RGB at 240p, VGA at 480p
  • REGION FREE
FAST STRIKER will be ready for release on Dreamcast in Winter 2010. - Preorders are open at NG:DevDirect with the regular edition selling for 42$ and 60$ for the limited edition.

(Thanks to Basil for the news!)

Found some more info about the game at ngdevteam's blog: http://blog.ngdevteam.com/
~ Game Modes ~

Novice (Easy)
This mode is for beginners only. It's comparable to Original Mode, just easier to get into for novice shmup players. Just shoot up enemies and collect gold star items.

Original (Medium)
This mode is focusing on blasting survial action. Yet it has a simple scoring system, which is mainly about collecting gold nuggets that enemies are dropping by shooting 'em up. The amount of nuggets you own, multiplies with the amount of enemies you destroy.

Maniac (Hard)
This mode has its focus on scoring, so naturally the scoring system is more complex. It's mainly about building chains by shooting up enemies within a short time window, and getting as much as multipliers as you can. By holding down the shoot button you get a blue laser beam, now you can focus on bigger enemies for a certain time and the blue laser turns into green, which means you get scores double as high as with a blue laser.

Additionaly this mode got a risk and reward system, which means the closer you get to the enemies the more score you earn but you also higher the risk to get hit by an enemy bullet to the same time.

Yeah. I'm not getting the limited edition or whatever though. I'd like to think indie development was a step above that business model, but obviously not.

I'm personally going to wait, as per tradition Rene Hellwig always makes a low price director's cut version and I am in no RUSH to play a shooter.

Well the GSP has minimized limited editions, and their limited editions really are limited.

Generally speaking I like Deluxe Editions, I don't get why they are called limited or collector's cause they never really are limited, nor do they ever become collectors items cause you can find all those limited editions abundantly available, cheaper then their inital price at ebay.

So they should just be called DX like RSG, and those who want a little more than the game can have a little more than the game, simple?

Dont you thing it`s too overpriced ? RGS was selling RRRR for €15.00 and it was game originally created for Dreamcast . Fast Striker is a port and it has price €32,95 . So why the price is so high ?

Well Ngdevteam thinks it is the right price for a high quality Neo-Geo game.

This game was tested by SNK, and NGDT was given advice by them on how to make it better so this has to be exciting.
