Double Power Unit OR Memory Card That Can Link to Computer?

Post by mrooobaa »

Does anyone know where I could get a Dreamcast Double Power Unit or a memory card that can be hooked up to the computer (I have a cable that will apparently work, so preferably without the cable)? Thanks in advance.

If not, is there any other way I can transfer saves to my computer?

you can also transfer vmu saves to your computer using a coders-cable or a BBA.

Hmm, I know that the BBA is really expensive, but where could I get a Coders-Cable? If it's illegal or something of the sort then nevermind.

Well that could work, but I need a cable or something to do it with.

Uhm, no you don't.
Of course, this assumes you have Cable internet.
1.) Host the server (configured properly for DC files) with teh script.
2.) Dial Up with your DC, and access your webserver.

Would I need DC software to access the web server, because there isn't an option to do it on the DC main menu.

Actually, I do, now that I think of it. But what's a good server I could use? And what's the upload script?

EDIT: Or what if I connected the Dreamcast to my computer with a phone cord? What would I need to do from there?

I got my double power unit off of eBay and love it. You can hook two memory cards up at the same time with the single unit and use the PC interface to transfer files from the computer to vmu or between vmus.

Yeah I looked for it on ebay, but I couldn't find it. Any good sites that would have it?

Lik-sang has it: link. In my opinion, it's well worth the money. With this, you don't have to be confined to a single card as you are with the Nexus. You can use any card with Double Power. Also, it's nice to be able to backup all of your data so quickly.

Does the price include shipping? And do you need any drivers to do it?

EDIT: Nevermind I know the shipping now. But what other alternatives are there?

I got my double power at a local Gamestop for about $3. Just remember that a double power does not simply transfer files from one vmu to another. It makes an exact copy of the saves on 1 vmu to the other. Hence, I am still looking to find a replacement save file for my Record of Lodoss War... :?

I probably won't be doing any VMU-to-VMU copying, I want to back up some of my saves to the computer since my VMU's are running out of space.

It will do individual file copying from VMU to VMU, but you have to do it from the PC.

It works like this:

To copy an entire VMU to another blank VMU, plug both VMUs into the unit and hit the red button on top. That's all there is to it.

To do it via PC, plug in both VMUs and the PC 25-pin parallel port cable to the Double Power unit and then load the PC application "DC Linker 2.3b"

It'll look like this:

This utility is really handy because can you not only transfer saves with a simple drag / drop, but you can also load saved memory cards into the virtual memory card below and drag / drop them individually. On top of that, it also have a built in save editor so you can easily add special characters to your names / edit the maximum pool online save.

You can get the coders-cable at Lik-Sang and many other places like Play-Asia.com. The coders cable is not illegal, it's very handy and you can use it to run many other tools like MP3 players, demos, games and of course, code your own dreamcast software. ;)

Cool, I'll look into that as well. I was a little worried that some of the mods would be upset if I was asking where to get that because I saw how touchy they were in that HLDC thread.
