Hex Hacking Samba De Amigo savefile?

Post by GyroVorbis »

I stumbled upon this:
http://sost.emulationzone.org/samba_de_ ... /index.htm

I am a complete Samba De Amigo finatic, and I can't stand knowing that there is a song on the game that I'm not getting. Especially this one, I love the Sonic Jam overworld theme.

Does anybody know if it would be feasible to hex hack a save file and try to alter it to unlock this song? I'm thinking we can take a Super Sonic Racing or Open Your Heart download song or something and see how it works. Maybe we could produce a save file with an unlocked Sonic A Go Go.

I'd be very interested in giving it a try. I'm sure somebody could do it, and it would truly be awesome if the world still got to play this awesome song even without Sonic Team allowing it.

I'm fairly sure that there is no "lost" track on Samba De Amigo. Maybe the 2000 version, but on my NTSC-U (North American release) disc, these are the only audio tracks:

  • after burner
  • burning ranger
  • el ritmo tropicana
  • fanfare (1 through 9)
  • height select
  • inoki
  • la bamba
  • livin la vida loca
  • love lease
  • macarena
  • main menu
  • mambo beat
  • mini game
  • mission lesson
  • mode select
  • name entry
  • nights
  • notice 1
  • notice 2
  • notice english
  • opa opa
  • out run
  • party select
  • rent a hero
  • rhythm
  • sambe de 2000
  • samba de amigo
  • samba de ja neiro
  • sega logo (1 through 4)
  • sonic adventure
  • sonic cd
  • sonic r
  • soul bossanova
  • take on me
  • team logo
  • tequila
  • the cup of life
  • title
  • title with voice
  • tubthumping
  • tutorial

The only Sonic songs on the disc don't sound anything like the song listed on that site.

Then I guess they're full of crap, because I've scoured the V2k disc and found nothing.

About Samba VMU files, you can check out here:

There are many "all unlocked" saves, I can't tell if they will have the song you're looking, but well, you don't have nothing to lose, right? :P
