It's nice that they gave a little blurb to Dreamcast hobbyists, but it's not at all accurate.
1) They mention that hobbyists are attracted to it because it used WindowsCE (while that was true in the early days before libdream/KOS and libronin, it's not at all true now)
2) They said that bleemcast! for Metal Gear Solid was the only bleem pak that made it out
While it is nice to see mainstream gaming giving at least a little attention to the Dreamcast, it'd be nice if they did a little research before hand. It's almost as if they added it in as an afterthought.

Let's see if I have this straight. The DC does not use Windows CE as they implied. Rather, one used Windows CE as a dev environment, correct?
Nice to see some info though about some of the was to legally play or obtain roms. In all honestly, if done so in a reasonable fashion, I think most people would rather be honest and get things legally.

No. The common misconception of DC and WinCE is that the DC has WinCE built-in. This is wrong. Other than the BIOS (which handles the screen you see when you turn on the DC without a CD) the DC does not have any builtin operating system. Instead, the games would have what they need on their disc. Some games used a specially tailored version of Windows CE. Others used what is called Katana, the Sega developed libraries and complier. Us "hobbyists" use GCC with the KallistiOS suite of libraries. Basically, it was up to the developers which development tools, libraries, and compilers they used. If the dev team had lots of experience in Windows game development, they would probably have gone with the WinCE approach since they'd feel right at home. Others with a more *NIX background might have chosen Katana.abydos1000 wrote:Let's see if I have this straight. The DC does not use Windows CE as they implied.
