I don't think that a particular PS2 game has anything to do with "the Dreamcast's Real Power".

Uh, yeah it does.

We're comparing a end-of-life-cycle Dreamcast game to one of similar status on another, newer console. By demonstrating that a Dreamcast can stand up, or in some cases surpass, the Playstation 2, I think that is a definite power demonstration.

I'm still not fully convinced by that link. Yes, there were times where I was like "damn, that looks better than Shenmue," but I don't know that I thought that more than the other way around. Mostly the lighting effects make Yakuza look good.

Half of that movie was cutscenes, and the main comparison (The streets of wherever the hell Yakuza takes place versus Wan Chai from Shenmue II) left me thinking Shenmue looked better. I just don't think the city in Yakuza looks as lush or detailed as Shenmue does, despite higher poly count and fancy lighting.

Yakuza has really bad textures and character models compared to Shenmue. However it does have better lighting and effects.

Once again, you're referring to specific cases, but anyway, I don't think that this thread is about the overdone DC vs PS2 discussion.

I found Yakuza in motion to look a lot better than on screenshots, however it definately shows the lack of texturing capabilities on the PS2.

Also, I don't think Shenmue 2 can be put on the same level as Yakuza on PS2, because the first one has been released 2 or 3 years after the system's launch, Yakuza was released 5 years later. It's both at the end of the lifecycle yes, but I do believe Sega hasn't had the chance to show what the DC is really capable of. This especially shows if you just look at some of the reflections and smoke effects in Under Defeat.

Also, I still think Sega is not really adept at working with the PS2, other developers did find ways to work around the low texture ram and jaggies, while to me it feels like Sega is producing games for it as if it were a Dreamcast, by using resources as they come instead of finding workarounds.

Is that the Portuguese version of carajo in Spanish? Whenever my wife and I are in Ecuador, her family randomly yells CARAJO, especially when drunk on the national beer, Pilsener. I'm not exactly what it means. It's just some strong exclamation.

Yeah, "holy shit" would be the best translation. A literal translation would be "cock", but it doesn't apply to this context.

well, i've read that there's a misinterpretation of the word "caralho" (or carajo in spanish). This word in fact references at the top part of a navy (some kind of tiny place in the highest place possible where a sailor could see far away). Also there's a lot of translations, i think that every country in latin america uses it in a different way. So when somebody sends you to the "carajo", it means that you can go to the highest, cold and tiny place of a navy.

In english it's called 'the crow's nest'. That was the original use of the curse (also tied to the origin of 'mouth like a sailor' and other such sayings) but in common use it is just generic explitive, meaning whatever the context demands. The most common, tied to its roots, would be 'hell'. 'vete al carajo' is common here.
