e-GeForce 9800 GX2 1024MB

Post by Mattiethomas »

Here is the card I've been waiting for in the GeForce 9 series. The 90 step-up I got on my 8800GT is looking really handy right now, especially with how much the 9800 GX2 costs.

I wonder how many people are going to destroy power supplies with that thing.

No kidding; I bought my 8800GT in January and might step-up to this. Haven't decided.

I'll admit, it's hecka-huge. Yes, I put two words together.

Well, I'm 17 and I don't own a car yet, and I'm living with my parents still so I have no rent to pay. Might as well invest in a nice computer to last me a while 'game performance'-wise.

I might save for a car though..

The more expensive a part gets, the more pointless. A $600 card will only last you a month longer than a $300 card, which will only last you a few months more than a $200 card, etc. Buy a card for less than half of the price and buy another card in a few years for less than half of the price. You come out on top money-wise and you will last longer like that anyway.
It's thinking...

Plus, have you considered the fact that this video card takes a special kind of power supply cable to power it? It won't work with your standard 6 pin video card power, so if your power supply isn't fairly new, you will probably have to buy a new one adding to the total cost of getting this card.

I'm quite satisfied with my nvidia geforce mx 420.

All my PC hardware is like 6 years old & still running great (audio card is 4 years).

Yeah, I actually posted something after darc, but it got deleted I think..Not sure why.

But yeah, I was explaining how the 9800 GX2 uses a 6-pin and an 8-pin PCI-E power cord to power it. My power supply only has a couple 6-pins so I guess I won't be getting this card. But yeah, I might still want to step up (It's a great deal getting near $300 off one; though, I guess I'm not really getting it $300 off..).

I was thinking of using the step-up for an 8800GTX or 8800 Ultra. What do you guys think I should do?

From what I hear, the 9 series is equal the the late 8 series (8800 GTX/Ultras), yet they operate at a much higher temperature.
