Cellphone with IRC
Anyone have a cellphone that's capable of using IRC either by software or through a web-based IRC client THAT DOESN'T RUN ON WINDOWS MOBILE and is GSM? I just got a T-Mobile Wing yesterday but returned it because Windows Mobile is beyond awful and the phone was retarded-slow but I could go on IRC with it which was nice and I want that feature for my next phone.
I was going to get a Sidekick because the browser is alright but it looks like IRC is impossible from it.

Re: Cellphone with IRC
Don't know if they're popular in the States but Nokia's Symbian (Series 60) handsets can run a whole load of software, including a free IRC client.
Plus you can theoretically get IRC on any phone which supports java midlets: http://jmirc.sourceforge.net/index.html . Again, don't know how popular these are in the States, your phones always seem to be locked down hard by the carrier.

Colloquy bugs out and has graphics artifacts that stop you from reading the channel once the text has scrolled so far.MulletMan13 wrote:I prefer the UI of Colloquy|darc| wrote:Exactly. I use BitchX for IRC on my iPhone.MulletMan13 wrote:http://www.apple.com/iphone

Re: Cellphone with IRC
Speaking of iPhone, I used to have a crap load of cool homebrew apps on mine. Then I retardedly updated the firmware through iTunes and it destroyed all my cool stuff. Now it's just a regular iPhone. Is there another exploit out for the newest firmware?
Re: Cellphone with IRC
I can't tell you the specific names, but there are several PalmOS based phones and there are IRC clients for the Palm. I had a PalmOS phone a few years ago, quite liked it actually (especially it's 5+ hours of talk time/three weeks of standby/awesome reception, way better than the phone I replaced it with).
It was the first model and too big though - the newer ones are in color and smaller.

Looks like I am going to get a Treo 680, but I am kind of bummed about the crappy camera.

I know you said you didn't want a Windows mobile phone, but the CDMA HTC Touch (HTC Vogue) runs WM 6 pretty well. I've got a great little IRC app for it.

You could wait until Apple releases the devkit, so that there will be authorized third-party apps. Will take a while, tho.Strapping Scherzo wrote:Speaking of iPhone, I used to have a crap load of cool homebrew apps on mine.
